"Oh, Faranth above...." Minji gasped to herself as she entered the valley from the only road leading out of the Weyr. She had been meaning to come to the valley for some time, and now was as good as any day.
As the artist, candidate, stepped further out into the valley, taking no real heed of the Weyr getting farther and farther away behind, did Minji stop before a large boulder shaded by a tree. There were always wildlife within the valley, and sometimes one had to be extra quiet to see or hear them. Most of the time, dragons that flew overhead were all she saw, but on rare occasions, she see some of the fire lizards in groups play with each other, sometimes even playing by the riverside and making such a racket, Minji couldn't help but to sketch them.
She laughed gently and quietly as she held her book on her legs which had been folded upright and rumaged about in her pouch for a charcoal utensil. Once her fingers grasped it, Minji sighed and turned the charcoal this way and that before digging her other hand into another pouch and pulling out her small blade. There were several good uses of this blade, and her favorite use of it was sharpening her sketching utensils. After the charcoal was at a good point, Minji placed her blade back inside its respectable pouch and looked at the black page before her. Now, let the inspiration begin.
One minute... Two minutes... Five minutes... Seven minutes passed and nothing came.
"Where is all the wildlife activities? There must be something going on to not cause them to how..." Minji looked about her shoulder and sighed heavily. Hopefully something interesting worth putting on paper would happen. For all she cared at the moment, someone could be walking over the horizon from the Hold or Weyr to this very place and Minji would put it down. At least it was something to highlight her day. But where would that person, or thing, be to inspire her? Shard it all, but she had to have an inspiration!! Where was that inspiration!?!

Dain was almost literally sniffing around outside. He had already searched through the entire Weyr twice over in search of both something to draw and something to draw with. He didn't regret not bringing drawing utensils with him. It was half the fun to find them himself!
The boy stayed close to the ground in his search, scouring the grass and dirt for any signs of something useful: a stick, a colorful rock, grass if he had too. He had already learn that grass and some plants could make fantastic colors when you gave them the chance. Every once in a while he reached down and picked something up, even if it wasn't something that could be used artistically. Every once in a while, he would emit a happy and incomprehensible cry when he found what he was really looking for.
After reaching down and picking up a stick that he thought, from a certain angle and with the right lighting, looked like a dragon, he stood back up straight, looking straight ahead rather than to the ground. He hadn't realized just how far he had gone from the Weyr. He shrugged, more interested in what he was seeing now.
There was a girl sitting there with a sketchbook. Instantly, a smile spread over his face and he pounced over to her side. "Can I see?" he asked, not daring to glance at the sketchbook yet. He knew that there were some artists out there that despised people looking over their shoulders.

Fariel was bored. The horrible things known as chores were done for the day, and hanging around the barracks doing nothing was giving her a terrible sense of ennui. She just had to get out! Finally she decided to explore outside the Weyr a little. She changed from her flowy skirt into some pants, then pulled on some hiking boots over those. Even though it was supposed to be good weather outside, she didn't want to get her nice clothes dirty.
Humming a raunchy ditty to herself, she set out, waving at the Searchrider on the Heights as she passed out the Weyr gate. He didn't stop her, so she figured this was allowed. If it wasn't, she would blame him.
Soon she had arrived at the valley. It felt wonderful to be out in nature and to express her joy, she promptly did a series of cartwheels on the grass, staining her knees green in the process. Oh well, they were just pants. Laughing, she righted herself and shielded her eyes against the sun. It was then that a pair of figures became apparent to her. At this distance, she wasn't sure if they were rocks or people, but it didn't matter. "Heellloo!" She called loudly, waving enthusiastically and starting in their direction.

”Will you slow down already?” “Why? It’s not my fault I’m faster than you, cousin.” “Of course, nothing is ever your fault...”
Though both males were related, much closer than the youngest would like to agree, it was clear by the hint of tones a few words had that they were not on the best of terms. Still, their caravan was gone for good, and they were all they had left for one another. Plus, Ketoh had known the truth of his shared bloodline with Hinuk, even if the younger brat outright refused to believe it. In fact, he always got edgy when Ketoh mentioned it, and would take any chance he could to remind him of their well-thought lie. Ketoh and he were cousins, not half-brothers – however much a lie it was. At least their appearance was very different for one another – it made it easier to have others believe the same lie.
”Watch where you’re going, you’ll trip.” “I will do no such thi- Off!”
As much as he tried to hold them off, the male couldn’t help as tears begun to mark the corners of his eyes, clutching his knee tightly with both hands. A red tint adorned a rock on the floor, as well as a faint glow among the dirtied fingers. The oldest sighed, shaking his head, before he reached into a small pouch. He knew how Hinuk was, his boundless energy and daredevil antics, and he’d brought a few bandages – along with another sack filled with meatrolls. They were going far, and surely the eleven turns old brat would get hungry in their trip. Reaching the boy, it took a while for Ketoh to convince him, before the male helped his half-brother limp close to the river that trickled through, cleaning the wound as best as he could before wrapping it in bandages.
”You know, it’s your fault that I fell.” “My... Fault?” “Yes, you said I’d fall and then tripped me to make yourself feel good!” “... You know what, forget it. Just shove this in your mouth and shut up.” “Wha- Mmphm!”
A meatroll was hastily shoved into the younger boy’s open jaws, the silvery white haired lad walking off – mildly angered now. Still, his younger strawberry blond sibling was still a kid, pampered all his life by their father, and he had lots of growing to do before he stopped being so immature. But, by Faranth, sometimes he just wanted to punch some sense into that brain of his. Finally gulping, Hinuk stood before trailing after Ketoh – as much as he acted as if he hated his guts, the two were rarely without one another. A group of people was ahead, and it was the youngest who rushed over quickly.
”Hi there!!!!”
A sigh was given by the older lad, before he half-heartedly followed Hinuk to the group of people. Ketoh was anything but a social butterfly. Still, they seemed around his age, maybe more, so surely they – too – were Candidates. He might as well get to know them.
"Hello."

Just as Minji had something to mind that could be put down on paper did someone pounce over by her side, almost causing her to drop her precious charcoal in the grass. When she got her wits collected, Minji had quite the annoyed expression upon her face as she looked toward the intruder that had scared her so.
The good thing about this person so far, was that he respected her space. The bad thing was how he approached her. Either way, because Minji really wasn't a hateful person, she begrudgingly lowered her sketchpad down and revealed the blankness of the page. Surely he would then get the picture that he had interupted her in her makings of drawing. If not, then he'd find out later.. Though at this moment, now was not the time. But, since she had not answered to his question, Minji drew in a breath of air and released it before putting on a friendly smile. "I didn't really get the chance to put anything down.. So, sorry to disappoint you there." She shrugged her shoulders and looked to her book. The moment was gone, and by far, she blamed this person, although she did not express it outwardly, but inside, she was pounding her fists into this person head..
And it seemed that as if one person was bad enough, another person was strolling by. This time, Minji had sensed her because she wasn't in her zone as it was disrupted at this point in time. Why, oh why was it she that was being interrupted by so many people in such a peaceful valley? Did she do something wrong to get abd things to happen to her now? Surely not, and because of that, it made her rethink her past thus far. Nope, nothing.. Apparently this was by fate... Yeah, as it.
At the outward call of the second intruder, Minji almost let a groan out as she watched this person, too, come toward her. Keeping her positive side showing, Minji nodded toward the newcomer before responding to her as well. "Hello to you too.." Unfortunate for Minji, neither one of them introduced themselves, let alone asked if they could partake in her quiet time, but, enough of her complaining. There were people here that, in any case, were wanting to make friends. Apparantly the valley was the one of a kind spot to do such exchanging of information to decide whether one would be friend or foe.
Watching the two people, Minji went from one to the other before looking to her sketch book and to a not so crowded place. As much as Minji loved to make friends, she really didn't care much for being in groups as it made her feel slightly uncomfortable.
So, as Minji just waited for one of the two to introduce themselves, Minji fidgeted slightly before collecting her book and charcoal and moving to a boulder a ways from the two, though she was still close enough to them. But while she was getting used to these two, guess what.. Two more appeared.
This..... Was.... MADNESS!!
Of all things, Minji could handle the one or two interuptions, but four? Now, that was pushing her luck. When the other two people arrived, the candidate/artist kept her smile remaining and waved cheerily before speaking aloud to them. "Why not join the group? Surely there's plenty of people so far to interact with." Minji gestured for them to make themselves comfortable if they so desired, but this was starting to irritate her slightly.
Remain calm. So long as you keep your cool, no one will notice. She smiled warmly and waited for someone to say a name. When nothing came, Minji cleared her throat once more and stood up from her spot on the boulder. "Since no one here has yet to introduce themselves, I guess I will go first." She smiled again as she looked about the four new faces. Introductions weren't exactly her thing, but since no one piped up, she was going to get something going. "I'm Minji, senior apprentice in the craft of artistry and currently candidate of the Weyr.." Looking around, Minji continued onwards. "Surely, by the looks of you all, you, too, would be candidates.. Unless I'm proven elsewise. But it is nice to meet you all, and in such fine weather too." Minji bowed after her small introduction as she waited for another person to brave themselves to do what she had done.

Aww, poor Minji ... out for inspiration, but instead draws in distraction. Lace thought, but smiling despite it all. She herself was set apart from the rest of the group, having came down a little earlier than her dear friend. She had located herself behind a mess of rocks to stare out and about ... for she, too, was on the search of inspiration. Lace did not sport the artist block that Minji did, but rather she was looking for color. Recently, she had started on a flowy skirt that really needed a theme to it ... the river in the valley had caught her attention.
Currently, her arms were wrapped about her knees and her chin rested on those knees, watching as the water gently gurgled on to its distant destination. Hmm ... is she could portray such a movement on material ...
"Surely, by the looks of you all, you, too, would be candidates.. Unless I'm proven elsewise. But it is nice to meet you all, and in such fine weather too."
Lace peeked out from behind her rock, peering around the legs of the other candidates. Hmm, perhaps her newest friend needed backup? Chuckling mentally, Lace flipped her annoying thick light-blond hair away from her face and stood. At least Minji would be able to see her, walking away from her 'thinking spot' and scooting around the rest of the candidates to stand at her friend's side. She gave Minji a wink before addressing the rest of the group as well.
"Greetings, everyone -- I am Lace." she too bowed, as Minji had done. Perhaps Minji would be more comforted with a familiar face around? Lace shifted her slight weight to her right leg, adjusting her small bag on her left shoulder as she, as Minji, waited to see who else wouldn't mind offering up their names.

Well, the place seemed a bit crowded, though thankfully the d was divided in two sub-groups. One being Minji, and later a new member when Lace arrived, and the other being… Well, everyone else. He noted the girl had a sketchpad, and when she introduced herself he gave a grin of amusement. An artist, eh? This should be interesting. He had seen many works of arts in his days of traveling with his father’s caravan… Though those days were long gone now.
” Since no one here has yet to introduce themselves, I guess I will go first." She smiled again as she looked about the four new faces. Introductions weren't exactly her thing, but since no one piped up, she was going to get something going. "I'm Minji, senior apprentice in the craft of artistry and currently candidate of the Weyr..” “Greetings, everyone – I am Lace.” ”Greetings to you all as well, the name is Ketoh. And this is my-“ “Cousin, Hinuk! It’s very nice to meet you all.” “Yes, it’s a delight. I’m a Candidate, and he is a Weyrbrat. Though we both come from caravan origins.”
The male simply rolled his golden eyes at the ‘eagerness’ of his younger brother, and how much he empathized that they were cousins, and not half-brothers. Still, he was young, so Ketoh guessed it was to be expected from him. He was, though, very careful to deliberately mention Hinuk’s current status with much joy – though, of course, he didn’t outright showed his pleasure. Hinuk had been enraged upon being told he could not stand with the rest of the Candidates in the Sands – and even more when Ketoh was given the privilege. Whenever he got too annoying Ketoh would just remind him of this, usually earning himself a few hours of peace and quiet.
Still, he did not speak further, allowing the others a chance to also introduce themselves – if they so pleased. After all, it was rude to exclude people.

Fariel continued on her path towards the other two candidates, hoping for some company. If they didn't want her around, they could tell her so, but until they did, she wouldn't leave.
Before she could even get there, more people had shown up. This was shaping up to be a party! She grinned and quickened her pace, waving enthusiastically at the new people.
"Nice to meet you all!" She cried when she joined the group, grinning around at everyone. "I'm Fariel, and I'm...well, I'm a candidate, I didn't used to be much of anything else, I suppose." She shrugged. Her smile widened when Ketoh mentioned his background.
"Oh, I used to be part of a caravan, too, until my mother decided to settle down and drag me with her," She rolled her eyes, clearly still annoyed by the situation, although she was out of it now.

As Minji lowered her sketchbook to show him, Dain gave it the blankest stare possible, as if he couldn't quite understand why it was blank. "It would be nice if you drew this valley," he said, perfectly innocently. He covered his mouth almost immediately afterwards as if to trap the words back in his mouth. He knew that drawing something after someone requested it, or even mentioned it, was difficult. At least, he thought so. 'I'm sorry. You should draw whatever you want. It should be good."
He stayed silent for a while, tenser than normal. He wasn't sure of what he should be doing. Every ounce of sense he had told him that this artist wasn't exactly pleased with his company, but he didn't know why. It never even occurred to him that introductions were in order.
Then, luckily, more people came. "Hi!" Dain greeted them happily with a wave. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched as Minji moved away. He thought he recognized her from somewhere, but he couldn't imagine where. Even more people came and Dain greeted them all with the same exuberant "Hi!"
"Since no one here has yet to introduce themselves, I guess I will go first," said Minji before continuing.
As soon as she and the other candidates were finished, Dain nearly jumped. "That's where I know you from! The artist crafthall! I was an artist there, too!" Of course, not many artists would recognize him immediately, if at all. He was the one who tended to stay out of sight, working on his own wherry-brained projects. "Oh, my name is Dain. I'm a candidate, too!"
((Not sure if the whole Dain-recognizing-Minji thing works, but since they're both artists...Meh, I can change it if need be.))

If it hadn't been for Lace, Minji probably would've, if they were ever invented, shot herself for being the center, even for a little while, of the whole propaganda. Lace was, in every aspect of the word, wondrous. As the fellow candidate that Minji knew earlier arrived and stood by the artist's side, she couldn't help but to sigh mentally. Someone else had taken the moments quiet while it was started. When Lace stated herself, Minji looked in Lace's direction and smiled, lipping the words, 'thank you' silently as Minji clapped at the introduction of Lace. After Lace, the pair that came together spoke up, though seeming to read the others mind, if not just finishing the sentence for the sheer joy of doing so, but in any way, Minji clapped and nodded at the two. Remembering names was something Minji could do since she had to actually memorize the position of a subject should they have an unfond case of not sitting, standing, or posing, in any general way. 'Ketoh and Hinuk'Once more, Minji nodded her head before the second person to show spoke up. Fariel. Another person from the caravans that frequently visited Sanctum Hold. Now, the young artist, well, candidate, thought hard to see if she could remember this person who had spoken up, but to no avail, could remember her face nor her name. So far everyone had introduced themselves and Minji remembered, now, faces to names. No sense in not doing so since a fair amount of people, candidates no less, were here. Might as well as make a use of remembering who's who among them as they might all be weyrlings together, and after that, riders who would all live, work, play, and practically strive together. When the last person spoke up, the first person to greet her, spoke up, Minji couldn't help but seem like she knew him from somewhere. He had a familiar face, but it just didn't seem to show up anywhere.. Where had she seen him? The words that first drew out of the lad's mouth was that he knew her from the artist crafthall. It was then that it really helped in Minji's remembering. Anyone could've said, 'Oy! You look familar to someone from this place..' And it would've, if any, made sense, but Minji, nope.. One had to be more precise. When he announced his name, however, things clicked, whirred, and practically became more active then the fact that he was an artist from the crafthall. Looking to Lace and then to Dain, Minji bit her lip. She remembered him now. He was the person who always got carried away with his artwork.. Yeah, he was a good artist, but, well, he just... Went out there when it came to drawing realistically. She remembered his drawings. They were indeed good, but not what they were originally supposed to be. Before thinking any more about Dain, Minji did speak up. "Is it really you Dain? The lad who got excruiatingly out there with your drawings?" She didn't really mean it to be rude or anything, but like said, she remembered him through his artwork. "I honestly didn't recognize you as I was usually kept so busy.. How've you been? How are you doing with your drawing?" If anything at all, Minji motioned for Dain to come over. She did miss him, but she never really knew him well enough to actually go more than just missing him. **************** Just as it seemed to have been a perfect day, the setting began to change slightly. Every now and again, the wind would pick up, let off, pick up and then let off again. The few trees that were within the area, they swayed and creaked and though they creaked, none of them so far threatened to break. But as the winds continued to play with the people, tossing hair and then ceasing, they finally just kept going, until it wasn't stopping. The wind howled and the once bright afternoon began to get darker and darker until the sun's light was no longer visibly shining down upon the fellowship of candidates. If anything, the clouds were threatening to pour a downing of rain that may never cease. Yet, never have so far done so until moments later when Minji went from enthused ast meeting another person from the artist crafthall to gazing up at the sky. How odd... It wasn't until Minji looked up that the first few droplets fell, shortly being followed with a pouring of the drenching liquid that would soon soak through the clothings of the group; not so much as thinking of letting up on them. And so, the relentlessness of the pouring, drenching rain fell, and fell, and fell. It was not going to stop anytime soon and Minji, getting halfway soaked, looked to everyone and took in a deep breath. She knew she was going to have to be loud in order to be heard by everyone, and she was not going to tolerate anyone, whether they were older and had no beliefs in listening to anyone younger or shorter than themselves, not listening to her. If anything that Minji hated being a figurehead, she didn't want anyone to get sick because of the pouring rain if she can help it. To the breath of air that she could muster, Minji stood up and cupped her hands to her mouth, letting the air go in loud, forming words over the whistling, rushing winds. "Everyone listen up! I know we were all getting buddy-buddy with each other, but now's NOT the time to socialize! If anything, the storm's coming, and coming down hard!" She drew in another breath, "If we all could, can we please make it out of this rain!? The last thing we need is for a fellow candidate to fall ill.." She paused before waiting before motioning for the people to follow her, or, if they really wanted, follow another person. Whichever they chose, Minji was taking the first few steps toward the only entrance of the Weyr before stopping and looking behind her. Would they follow her?

If anyone were to look at her for those next few minutes, Lace may have appeared to be ... 'spacey'. Her light-blue eyes were distant as she gazed over the heads of the others in some sort of contemplation. But then she felt it, what she had been worrying about earlier ... a storm. A single drop plunked itself onto her chest, drawing her attention back to her more current surroundings. The wind tugged at them, and her hair easily responded in a graceful yet crazy manner as the light-colored locks whipped to and fro about her head.
"If we all could, can we please make it out of this rain!? The last thing we need is for a fellow candidate to fall ill.."
Lace half smiled at her friend as she tried to get cooperation from the group, and she diligently walked at the girls side. She never felt comfortable following someone ... at least, not very often. She either had to be at their side or be the one leading. When Minji turned back to see if the others were following, she did as well. If anyone were to get sick, it would be her, haha!
"Come on, let's go get some klah, on me!" Lace called out, half joking but also serious. They would all need something warm to chase away the chill, that was for sure! She peered out through her mass of thick hair to Minji and smiled, as if telling her she would stay at her side and help lead, or help her in any way, if needed. Worry was nagging at her -- so many were here, and it this storm got worse ...

"Oh, I used to be part of a caravan, too, until my mother decided to settle down and drag me with her." "Well, that just might be the best choice she could have done. Caravans aren't exactly safe-" "Nonsense! Caravans are the best!" "Have you forgotten that quickly, Hinuk..." "Huh? What do you mea- ..."
Whatever secret thought the two boys shared in their past, the ale managed to bring it back up to hi younger sibling. hey had been around the Weyr for a while now, enough to start forgetting the sorrow that had lead them into this place to begin with. Sure, caravan life was fun and exciting, but the dangers and tragedies that could occur weren't. Fariel's mother took a wise decision, in Ketoh's mind at least. The Weyrbrat besides him scoffed, stubbornly turning his face away from them as he watched the rest of the group.
What right had Ketoh to remind him of that night?! The strawberry blond male was boiling in young anger now, forgetting his surroundings... Until a few droplets of water fell onto his cheek. Puzzled, he looked upwards, only to have another drop fall and land inside one of his sapphire eyes.
"Ah, shard it!!" "If we all could, can we please make it out of this rain!? The last thing we need is for a fellow candidate to fall ill.."
Ketoh and Hinuk looked over as Minji begun to speak over the torrential downpour that now trapped them, the male willing to follow both females without a fuzz. Still, his younger sibling never took being lead well, and the blond bolted to the front of Minji and Lace, as if he was the one leading this group to the Weyr. He would not be led around like a canine. A sigh was given by Ketoh, before the male waited to see if Fariel and the others followed. Getting out of this rain seemed like a good idea.
"Come on, let's go get some klah, on me!" "Aye, that sounds like a fantastic suggestion Lace!"
He gave a joking grin, the male in a considerable good mood even as his clothing became soggy and heavier while it retained rain water.

Fariel grinned, her eyes flickering between the two boy candidates as they argued over whether or not her mother had made the right decision. She had thought about it herself sometimes. She loved the caravan life, but she had been young then, so maybe she hadn't realized how dangerous it was. Whatever, being a Holder was boring. Weyr life was looking up, though.
She had just opened her mouth to give some reply when a raindrop plunked on her head, and she squealed in surprise. "Ugh! My hair!" She complained, putting her hands over her head to try and ward off the rain. Her hair always got terribly frizzy in bad weather.
"Yeah, let's get out of here!" She agreed with Minji, and started following after the other girl. "And klah sounds lovely," She added, smiling at Lace. The blue-eyed young woman seemed a bit strange, but she was nice, too. She glanced back to see if the others were following, muttering under her breath about how her precious skirt was going to be drenched. It was just rain, but still, she enjoyed complaining sometimes.

As Minji had corrected to count Lace as a trustworthy friend to forever keep close to, Minji couldn't help but to return the smile, getting the hint that Lace would, too, stay out in this drenching rain to make sure of everyone's safe passage back to the Weyr. Once the group of people made way to follow, one in particular to go ahead and lead, Minji watched as everyone trailed onwards before she, herself followed behind. No sense in leading if there's one spunky person to lead them.
It was then, that Minji made a quick gasp ofsurprise as she noticed that she hadn't grabbed her sketchbook.. Weher was it? Did she accidentally leave in by that rock she had moved to and forgot about it the second the rain started to fall? Surely so.. But just to make sure it was there and not destroyed as most of the pictures in it probably were, Minji dashed past everyone and back to the boulder, looking high and low for the book that she had carelessly set aside, obvious worry starting to fill her up as she grasped the ground before her in hopes of finding it.
To Minji's surprise, the book wasn't the first thing her hands came in contact with. It was a small, ovally shape and as Minji wrapped her hand about it and lifted it up, Minji gasped softly as she revealed a fire lizard's egg.
Now, what was Minji to do with this egg? Surely there was more because she had felt another when Minji put her handback into the same small crevice that had found the first egg she had pulled out. As Minji pulled yet another egg from the hidden place, Minji shook her head and muttered softly as she shrugged off her coat she had been wearing, thank Farnath, and placed the coat beside her as she placed the two eggs gently upon her coat and went in for the rest, if there were. In total, Minji had went back and forth quite a few times to reveal the clutch of several fire lizard eggs. All barely dreached, if the rain from above just plonking on top of the hard shells and running off of it to further wet her coat.
Once Minji double, tripled checked th hidden crevice, Minji sighed as her eyes found her book, slightly starting to dampen as it lay nearly under the rock before hand, just a few inches from where she found the fire lizard clutch. With a sigh of relief, Minji made a grab for her book and placed it with the eggs before covering the clutch with what little unused spaces to keep them warm and dry. So, here was Minji, in the back of the group of people with a semi-heavy coat full of fire lizard eggs and her halfway soaked sketchbook that when she would son open would lead to her utmost surprise. Why was this happening to her?

Lace let the others get ahead as they decided to, wanting to stick with Minji. But she suddenly turned back, seeming to have forgotten something. Slightly shivering, she stopped and let the others pass her to wait. Hmm, oh yes! She had forgotten her sketchbook! It was like her and leaving her bag around all the time.
But when Minji just simply didn't come back, Lace squinted her eyes through the rain and began to walk back. But then there was Minji, slipping a firelizard egg into the crevices of her own jacket.
All Lace did was smile -- she did not crowd Minji to ask to have a look, or anything of the like. Instead, she reached into her bag and pulled out a thick, big square of material that was a dark blue. She hadn't been able to do anything to it yet, and she had been debating whether or not to just make it into a small blanket.
