01. Mist Egg At first glance, this egg appears to be a pale, silvery-grey in color, spanning from top to bottom with an odd sheen that almost makes it appear as liquid, rather than the hard egg shell it possesses. However, the color is not solid at all, but rather it is a blending of lighter and darker colors, like clouds mingling over the egg's surface, giving it a strangely three dimensional appearance, as though the viewer could step into the scene played out over the shell and walk through dragonlength after dragonlength of fog, yet find nothing. This image is accentuated by the fact that there are darker patches on the shell, as though to give the impression of pathways winding on and on - forever into the dark. Though this egg is small, it seems to know of its own strange appearance, as the casual toucher will find it more cold and distant than many of the other eggs, as if the dragonet inside has no real interest in the world around it.
02. Soot Egg Far darker than its clutch sibling, this egg leans closer to the black spectrum, though it is in fact a very dark grey. Smudges of lighter colors can be seen scattered across the egg, as if invisible hands came through and ran their fingertips along the shell before the color fully formed. Tiny lines of lighter shades add the illusion of fingerprints across the shell's rough surface, giving prominence to such an idea. The bottom of the egg is its darkest spot, invisible though it is against the sands, while the top appears to be the lightest - it is almost as though the color melted down from the top to give it an odd, lighter grey appearance. To the touch, the egg's surface is rough and patchy, and the dragonet within seems to be a direct contrast - inquisitive, curious, and distinctly friendly, eager to reach out and bond with anyone who happens to touch its egg. As far as size goes, this one, too, is on the smaller side.
03. Vapor Egg Silvery is this egg, rather than grey or white, and the color is nearly perfect, save for the fact that whenever the light hits it, it becomes an odd, white blur like staring at the snow whenever the light hits it just right. Indeed, this egg appears to have more a metallic sheen than many of the others in the clutch, a fact that is highlighted by the fact that its color is nearly completely solid. There is no trace of 'texture' at all to this silvery egg, or any hint that there might be a slight imperfection in its wonderful shell; flawless save for its unusual color, this egg stands on the larger side of the eggs, though it would never be mistaken for the largest of them all, and to the touch it is abnormally cold, almost like brushing one's fingers across ice. The dragonet within, too, is distant, but not in a cold manner; rather, there is a unique shyness to the dragonet inside of this egg, as though it is not quite sure of its place in the world... yet.
04. Ashes Egg Pale and dark greys mingle awkwardly over this egg, feathered as though the shell was rolled in the ashes of a massive fire. Stains color the shell, marring and perfecting it in their own right, so that no two spots are the same shade next to one another, but nothing is quite too far apart. The spots are awkward and do not match one another in any way and there is no perfect blending of color, as with many of the eggs in the clutch, yet there is a balance to each shade, from the darker spots of grey to the nearly white. Uneven though the colors are, and imperfectly blended, no one could ever really describe this egg as completely ugly, though it does appear to be dirty rather than clean, and next to some of its clutch siblings, that could be enough to repel viewers. But those bold enough to come up to this egg and touch it will find that the dragonet within possesses a definite self-assurance, along with an affection for anyone who touches its egg, as though very friendly. The egg is smaller than some of the others, though it is not the smallest in the clutch.
05. Dusty Egg Strange does this egg appear, for it looks as though it is older than many of the other eggs, though 'old' would be an odd description as it was certainly not the first to be laid. Rather, the color looks as though at one time it was the same fine silver as the Vapor Egg, but time wore the fine metallic sheen away with a spider-webbing of dust covering the shell until it is little more than a foggy grey, a thin, nearly transparent layer that covers the brilliance beneath. Casual viewers might think to try and wipe away the sheet of dust from the egg's surface, but no amount of brushing will wipe the dust away. There seems to be an almost antique look to this egg, as if the dust adds a certain charm that other eggs don't possess. The fact that the egg is medium-sized, more toward small, does nothing to dissuade from the impression that it is one of the oldest in the clutch, and the dragonet within, though withdrawn, seems to emit a sense of warmth and reliability - no doubt this egg will hatch a hardworker, some day.
06. Smudged Egg Grey, silver, black, white, all monochromatic is this egg, and the colors are smudged around so much that it is hard to figure out where one color ends and another begins. Splatterings of lighter and darker are visible for all to see and there are smudges of lines as though the egg originally possessed many unique designs, but was in the presence of heavy wind before the markings fully set. As it stands, this egg is one of the most chaotic in the clutch simply because there appears to be no rhyme or reason to its appearance, just a mess of monochromatic bleeding white to black in all shades of grey in between. This egg is one of the smaller ones in the clutch and to the touch it is warm, welcoming, inviting. The dragonet within seems to be the kind of creature who likes to get to know everyone, for all who touch the egg will find themselves brushed by an innocence that few things can match - totally unaware of the darker aspects of the world outside its shell.
07. Blurry Egg Maybe there's an image imprinted into this egg's shell, visible hauntingly as though viewed from a fogged up window, the outside looking in. Whatever the design this shell could possess, the outcome is that it looks as though it is a mingling of oddly blue-tinted greys and whites, with a thin veil of silver almost overlying the shell. Blurred beyond recognition is every image this egg possesses, and the colors are indescribably cold. The egg itself looks as though it would possess an almost slimy texture, but to touch it is like touching dragonhide; firm, yet soft to the touch, strong enough to withstand most anything, and there are no imperfections as far as the egg feels. On the small side, the egg has an unusual charm, playful and mischievous, prone to almost 'nipping' people who touch it, though not painfully. Clearly this dragonet possesses a sense of humor.
08. Smoke Egg Swirls of gray-blue dance from the bottom of this egg, spiraling up toward the top of it in ribbons of delicate, nearly-transparent color. The backdrop color of this egg is a dark gray that brings prominence to the lighter shades, as if they are the center focus and by far the most interesting thing about the shell. Casual viewers will note however that there are tiny spots of color, like an array of iridescent glowbugs, that make up the outline of each ribbon, and when the light hits them, this egg may be among the most colorful in the clutch. It is on the small side for a dragon's egg, or at least so it appears next to its clutchsibling the Illusions egg, but the personality within is more than enough to make up for the small stature - big in personality, no doubt about that, the dragonet seems to want to be on the go-go-go, and anyone who lingers too long might find their fingers burnt by this so-zealous egg.
09. Illusions Egg Perhaps the most strange of the eggs, this one appears to have layer after layer wrapped around it, as though some invisible force grabbed several sheets of lace and wound it tight around the shell to give it a texture none of its clutch siblings possess. The coloring, like many of the other eggs, is a grey-on-grey, but it appears to shift and change depending on how the lights around the hatching caverns hit it; from deep storm grey, the color of the sky at winter just before the thunder rolls in, to an icy, arctic color somewhere close to white, no two spots on this egg are the same. Its unique appearance is highlighted by the fact that the textured appearance is actually made up of silky-soft lines in the shell, as if those single lines forgot to harden, but without actually damaging the egg itself. To the touch, the egg is strong, yet soft, more like silk than any egg had a right to be, but the dragonet within seems dormant, uninterested, or perhaps simply sleeping all the time.
10. Reflection Egg Like the still surface of a shallow puddle on a stormy day, this pale, perfectly smooth egg possesses a unique, reflective sheen. At first, it seems there is no color to the egg itself at all, for it reflects back everything and anything that comes close to it. Indeed, it’s a wonder to find the little egg amongst the others at all, so beautifully as it borrows the likenesses of those around it. Hidden away, it seems, using its siblings as shields. Upon closer examination however, it becomes clear that the egg is actually silver in hue. Also, there are dark splotches along the top and very bottom curves which are deep gray in hue and have no reflective properties, much like an aging mirror might have. It takes a very perceptive person to pick this elusive egg out from the bunch, but those clever enough to do so will find the dragonet inside very receptive of their attentions, as if glad for the company. The egg itself is quite small, perhaps one of the smallest in the clutch.
11. Scratches Egg Even at a cursory glance, the appearance of this egg is quite startling. True, it is not a particularly large egg, nor is it vibrant in color. Quite the opposite actually, comprised of deep gray-greens and smoky browns, combining for a not altogether attractive display. But the interest is not so much in the coloration of this egg as it is in the shapes that appear gouged into its surface. Deep, pale gray scratches, so much like old scars, mar the surface of this egg, crossing and melting off into one another. The entirety of the egg is covered in these and are easily felt and traced at a touch. This egg sits to the edge of some of its other clutchsiblings, as though it didn’t quite have the will or interest to be any nearer than it had to be. At a touch, one will find the dragonet within to be oddly quiet, though interested in spite of itself. This one is large among the medium and small eggs, though not very impressive when compared to the larger eggs.
12. Cracks Egg Sitting amongst some of its larger clutchsiblings is where this egg is to be found, its mottled, washed-out, rusty-gray hued shell looking as though it were ready to get on with hatching already! Much to the casual observer’s shock, this egg is covered in long, sharp, splintering silver lines, mimicking near perfectly the pattern of a hatching egg’s shards. This is simply a coloration of the shell of course. All of those silvery cracks having only but the slightest indentation to them, for the egg isn’t really on its merry little way to hatching just yet. Still, the look of it is masterful and could be quite alarming to an untrained eye. To feel it, one would think they were laying hand upon a weather-worn, time-rusted, forgotten tool, rather than a dragon egg. Though the egg itself has some tenderness to it, the texture is rough and abrasive - not exactly the most welcoming of surfaces that one might come into contact with. Meanwhile, the little one inside gives off a certain air of impatience and boredom, as though the dragonet has decided it has been in there quite long enough thank you very much. Though the egg is on the small size, obviously this one is not to be taken lightly.
13. Mirage Egg Here in an instant and gone in a flash - this egg does nothing but baffle and befuddle all who might cross its path. Situated amongst the cooler-colored of its clutchsiblings, this egg with its surface like rolling storm clouds reflected in glass, seems to just vanish right before your very eyes! A trick of the light, perhaps? Or something else? Not unlike a misty apparition, this egg slips in and out of the corner of one’s eye, only ever making itself known just enough to be investigated, before letting its enigmatic shell drag it back into the ether once more. The trick is all in the gentle waves which texture the shell, catching, reflecting and refracting the light and colors around it, confusing the human eye at a distance. The closer one gets to this egg, the easier it is to truly see. On the large side of medium, at a touch, this egg is smooth, warm and welcoming as a mug of klah. The dragonet within gives off an air of comfort, dependability... and the feeling that it is thoroughly amused over something that shouldn’t be funny.
14. Deceptive Egg What is it about this egg which catches the eye so? Is it the solid, thick ribbons of color, not so unlike antiqued metals, which run from top to bottom? Or is it the lovely shimmer of misty, silver iridescence, which overlays the golden, bronzed and rusted-red stripes? What about the misty, glistening, silver-gray patches at top and bottom, making it look as though it were sprinkled in stardust? Perhaps it is the sheer size of it which merits noting, certainly holding its own amongst some of the larger eggs. Or the fact that it is out in the middle of nowhere, quite some distance from the others. Then again, perhaps it is all of the above. One thing is for certain, without even needing to touch it - this egg intends to captivate. To what end, who can say? The warmth and velvety feel of this egg lures one into visiting with lingering fingertips, even though the dragonet inside gives off an air of cool calculation and mild (to moderate) indifference. The tenderness of the outside can’t quite reconcile the sharpness on the inside - certainly, this one is not all it seems...
15. Swirled Egg Like mist rising off the water in the early hours before dawn, this egg captures such a delicate and beautiful moment in time with pale blues, violets and shimmering, translucent white. The colors wash over the egg in lush, soft waves, which curl into feathery, artful little swirls all around, while the white spirals through, sweeping everything up in its gentle thrall. Even more impressive is the swirl pattern worked right into the very shell of the egg itself! Truly, the beauty of this social little egg, snuggled up against its clutchsiblings, is in the perfectly amazing feel of this amazing texture against one’s hand. And oh, does the dragonet within ever appreciate touch! Once you begin, it isn’t going to be easy to let go, for the dragonet inside will simply radiate warmth, affection, light and how much it appreciates your being there. This one is medium in size, among the smaller eggs, but you would be hard-pressed to find one with a bigger heart.
16. Ringed Egg Like rings of smoke, blown carefully into the misty air of a darkened room, so are the pale silver rings which seem to float around this dark gray, nearly black, egg, rather than being bound to the matte surface. There is no shine to this egg and only the barest reflection of light. There is a deep and almost sticky texture to this egg, the kind of feeling that either attracts a person slightly or repels them totally. Even at a glance, it’s obvious that there’s no middle ground with this egg, which sits among the larger eggs, sizeable in its own right, casting dark shadows upon those smaller than itself. Inside, the dragonet tends to give off disinterested, grumpy impressions. Not that it’s lazy...no. It just has no interest in you or in anyone for that matter, so go away and try bothering someone else for a change.
17. Showstopper Egg It’s all glitz and glam with this egg! Bright explosions of vibrant colors form a blossoming patchwork over a misty base color of dark grays and swirling white, the darkest portions finding themselves at the top and bottom, while the lightest section radiates from the middle. Jewel tones of sapphire, emerald, ruby and amber shimmer all over the egg, sparkling brilliantly in any light the color might catch. Talk about an egg that will halt you in your tracks! Surely, some would find this egg to be over-the-top or gaudy, but it isn’t within this dragonet’s personality to care what others think, ultimately. The shell is somewhat cool to the touch around the top, but very warm in the middle and bottom. The splattered bits of color have a slight raised texture to them, but otherwise the shell feels quite smooth. The feeling from the dragonet inside is nothing short of robust. From this sizeable egg, there is definite heat, energy and an eagerness to get up, get out and do!
18. Pale Egg Warm mist, cool mist, fog after a summer rain, wood smoke rising against a pale blue sky - each has its merit and each has its own special essence. All of these pale, pale shades and more can be found on this particular egg, the delicate hues forming fluffy little patches of barely-there colors, like summer clouds. Every color imaginable can be found here, but only just barely, so pale are the colors. And as if they were not light enough, a sheen of iridescent white lies overtop these fluffy hints of coloring, further adding to the seeming lack of pigment on the egg. From afar, it would seem that it is nothing but a pale egg. Only upon closer inspection do these faded mists of rainbow skies become obvious. The egg is small and shell feels soft, almost fluffy to the touch. From the dragonet inside, a touch will glean precious little. Apparently, this one likes to keep a little mystery about them.
[ Credits go to Switch, my other half, for the second half of these eggs. Without her, it'd still be a few days before you got your clutch. :3 ]
