General Information
Name: Yn're (Ynthantre)
Age: 21
Gender: male
Sexuality: heterosexual but bicurious
Rank: Greenrider, mind-healer, HAD
Appearance
Hair: Dark brown, nearly black hair is his greatest pride. Almost to his waist, Yn're's hair is straight and with natural shine, and though he has to use all sorts of unguents to keep it smooth and untangled, he's willing to put the effort into it. Yn're wears it in various fashions, but for flying and work, he keeps it french-braided, to keep the bangs out of his eyes. A few early silver hairs mark him, most in his bangs, and peek out from time to time.
Eyes: Light hazel, a mix of amber and green, Yn're's eyes are fascinating to look into--if you get the chance to. More often then not, Yn're is staring off at something quite different, whether listening to an unheard conversation, or merely watching a world only he sees.
Height: Almost 6'1", Yn're is pretty tall, especially for the Pernese. Comfortable with his height, Yn're's not afraid to tower, though he will make jokes about his heaight from time to time, especially because he was such a short boy.
Over-All: A surprisingly handsome young man has grown out of the near-invisible boy of the past. His skin glows from long hours in the sun, bringing out gold highlights in his dark hair and kissing his skin with the same gold. His face is full of expression, from laughter to sorrow, and Yn're isn't one to hide his reactions unless necessary. A scar on the bridge of his nose from a run-in with a rock wall gives him a bit of a rakish appearance, but not enough to put a dent in his vanity.
More likely than not, Yn're will be found in his flying gear. He generally wears a plain, undyed shirt and calfskin pants, or even cotton, with the leather flying jacket tossed over. Combat practice sees him in sturdy boots, along with knee-grips and riding-breeches. He has several riding helmets, for various weather, and does without for pleasure-flight, wearing only the ubiquitous goggles. A belt-knife and a pouch of pine-nuts are usually his only extra gear, though Yn're does tend to carry meatrolls or fruit around if he plans on staying out for lunch.
Personality
Usually more of an observer than a participator, Yn're tends to be a little on the quiet side. He loves just listening to the chatter of dragons and of people, and is just as content to laze on the beach while Yukasth soars overhead or to fly with her. Yn're is a very good judge of people, and makes it a goal to one day be good enough to judge the color of Impression for each Candidate. He doesn't get much work as a mind-healer, but keeps his hands busy by mixing medicines for abrasions, coughs, and the like, as he has that sort of basic knowledge.
Always willing to lend a helping hand, Yn're still has the bad habit of giving people advice they really don't want to hear--but has the added advantage that, as a mind-healer, people actually tend to pay attention to him some of the time, if only so they don't have to hear the "I told you so" down the road. Often arrogant, if subtly so, Yn're tends to act as if he's immortal, with only Yuka's fears keeping him from taking absolutely idiotic chances. Yn're tends not to listen to advice (the hypocrite) from anyone, and tends to take dangerous chances in Threadfall and practice, but so far has come out unscathed--but likely has a few hard knocks coming down the chute!
Perfectly willing to fade into the background, Yn're has a penchant for collecting (though rarely spreading) gossip, especially about people he likes, dislikes, or has no particular attachment to. In other words, everybody. Gifted with a quick mind and a quicker wit, it's hard to tell when Yn're is mad at you, except for the scathing comments he'll direct your way, all innocently. Of course, if he really likes you, such comments will still zing your way, just accompanied by a quick grin or laugh. He has no sense of justice, or fairness, but is certainly quick to snap if he feels he's being short-shrifted and is perfectly willing to break rules to get something.
History
Ynthantre was born to a healer, a child out of wedlock, but his mother never saw fit to tell him the name of his father--or any details about him, and the boy never questioned it. Growing up, he learned the intricacies of healing as everyday business, to the point where his mother could send him on a quest for any sort of herb she needed, and he would tromp back home within a few hours, the needed plant in his gathering-basket.
Always a quiet child, Ynthantre spent the time he wasn't working, studying people. Often he would hide in trees and bushes so that he could watch people go at their daily business, or sit unobtrusively in a corner and listen to the gossip. He managed to learn a good deal from people that way, just listening and watching, and soon he understood why they were doing things, not just what they were doing. With little compunction to lie (for what healer lies about injuries and medicine?), Ynthantre would sometimes give out unwanted advice--no matter how right he was.
His mother, tired of angry patients telling her how to raise her son, sent the observant child to the Weyr to get some sense, at the age of eleven Turns. It was then that he learned just what those occasional murmurs were--dragons. And he could hear them all. Ynthantre was not a Candidate, yet he figured out just how to get onto the Sands, for he wanted with all his heart one of the magnificent dragons that had crept into his dreams. The next Hatching, the lad slipped on a purloined Candidate robe, and brazenly strode onto the Sands with the "true" Candidates. He was not Chosen, but the lad didn't truly expect to be. After all, he had missed the Touching!
The next Clutch, Ynthantre insinuated himself into the Touching as well, a much more difficult affair, but somehow managed to evade being caught, perhaps because of his ability to fade into the background. He pulled the same stunt at the Hatching, and this time--well! When twin greens Hatched, he was riveted. And when one--cringing and terrified--fled to him, the twelve-Turn-old boy eagerly received her.
Mine, oh Mine! I am so scared! Won't you protect your Yukasth? Ynthantre--now Yn're--was besotted. Though he had never been an official Candidate, now he was a weyrling, and dragons never Chose badly. He and Yuka became an unstoppable team, him protecting her, and she never leaving his side. Of course, he also befriended (sort of) the rider of Yukasth's twin, the much bolder Tsakyyth and K'lir. How could he not? Yuka and Tsa were well-nigh inseparable!
Due to his young age, the queen had to "dampen" Yukasth as she grew older, until he hit his majority at sixteen. The extra two Turns of Flightlessness gave them a chance to grow even closer, as Yn're turned his attention back to healing, and became trained in the finer art of mind-healing. What time they did not spend training, they spent flying, and the two remained the best of friends through the Turns, to the point where Yuka will even face her many fears if Yn're asks her to, and not hesitate. He will protect her!
Pets:
Firelizards (Impressed):
None.
Treehoppers (owned):
Sabu (Bu), male. Like all his kind, Sabu looks a bit like a Terran squirrel, except with six legs, instead of four. Intelligent and perhaps just a hair fat, Bu is a constant companion for Yn're, usually occupying a shoulder and napping along the curve of his neck. He comes to his name and is very friendly and curious.
Dragon:
Name: Yukasth
Age: 9 Turns
Color: Green
Code: 00611C
Mind-voice: Quiet and hesitant to be heard, it’s easy to miss this dragon’s voice. Only rarely will she have any sort of command in her voice; this dragon seems almost impossibly fragile when under stress. Instead, she is far more likely to have a tremor in her voice, or a weak laugh, rather than any sort of strength.
Appearance: A beautiful leaf-green color, this green is almost a solid color. Just like her identical twin, Yukasth bears a mark on her forehead that looks rather like an oakleaf, in a faintly paler color than the rest of her body, just like a new leaf unfurling from a tree. Very elegantly built, Yukasth is narrow-boned and lightweight. From her narrow, sculpted face to arching wings and whipping tail, Yukasth is a creature of great beauty.
Unlike her twin, Yukasth is more timid and prone to hiding. Less physically fit and seeming more delicate, Yukasth is always careful in how she walks, never careening about for fear that she will hurt someone. Unlike her sister, who is secure on the ground, Yukasth is far more secure in the air. Once she learns to fly, she will spend most of her time aloft, drifting from thermal to thermal, letting the air carry her up, just letting herself not think, and be suspended between earth and sky, away from everything.
Personality: Occasionally playful, Yukasth is far more often found trying to hide from the world. Terrified of many things, Yukasth is a dragon of many phobias. Afraid of felines, afraid of thunder, afraid of germs, afraid of deep water… just to name the worst. Often she’ll start at sudden noises, and can require constant assurances to get through the day. But despite this, Yukasth is brave when it truly counts. She would die to save Hers, and Threadfall fills her with bravery.
Yukasth loves to curl up in tight places, and she once refused to move out of the junior weyrling barracks, just so she could have the feeling of being tucked inside of a cave big enough only for her. Of course, when a small weyr higher up was be found, she instantly chose that one, for Yukasth absolutely adores heights and flying. Anything that involves being higher, is automatically better, and she is incredibly reliable when it comes to flights in high winds—just don’t ask her to fly in a storm!
