General Information
Name: Aryna
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Rank: Bluerider
Appearance
Hair: True black.
Eyes: Jade green
Height: 5'4
Over-All:
Not particularly tall, nor short, Aryna stands at an average height of about 5’4. Her dark, dark hair is actually true black, gleaming with blue highlights in any sort of light. The strands are fine and slick, leaving her hair as smooth and addictive to touch as the finest silk. It falls all the way to the end of Aryna’s back, the ends curling lightly into loose waves. It is usually bound in some way or fashion; left loose, the thick strands seem to slide and spread everywhere, falling across her shoulders and down her waist and arms, though they do stay free of her face.
At first glance, her build appears to be delicate, feminine, the very epitome of what a woman's body should be. She does boast some nice curves, but upon closer inspection, one realizes that 'wiry' might be a better description for her body type. It's true, she curves appropriately and has not one ounce of excess fat on her body. However, unlike most 'ladies', there is nothing soft about Aryna. Her flat belly is solid muscle, with the faintest definition of abs. Her arms are not flabby anywhere, lined with lean but powerful muscles. She isn’t exceptionally well-endowed in the bust, but there’s enough there to make it known that she’s definitely female. Her hips curve softly, enough to fill out a gather dress, but even here, there's no excess. Arms and legs are long and slender in spite of the muscles lying beneath the skin, aiding in the deceptively delicate appearance. Aryna’s skin is smooth and free of blemishes except for a small scar on her upper thigh. It is smooth and faded with age, but still very noticeable, as it gleams white whenever visible. Her skin is a soft, chocolatey-golden color, implying much time spent outside; this is true, but in actuality, the girl’s dark complexion is hereditary also.
In spite of her dark hair and skin, Aryna’s eyes are a stunning, vivid green. They usually come as a shock to people who see her for the first time; her hair and skin imply that she would have dark brown eyes, but such is not the case. Her stunning eyes are, like her complexion, hereditary, a strong trait in her father’s side of the family. They are pleasantly large and wide, though slightly almond-shaped. They’re the perfect ‘bedroom-eyes’, appearing dusky and somehow alluring, surrounded by thick, black lashes. They are set in a perfect little heart-shaped face and accompanied by a petite nose and full, deep red lips. It's probably true that if she really put her mind to it, she could get anyone into bed she set her mind to.
Personality
Her allure is not confined to just physicality; there is something about Aryna’s personality that seems to draw people in. She is quick to smile and even quicker to laugh. In spite of her appearance, this young woman is unafraid to get her hands dirty, though she’s just vain enough to want to look good while doing it. In fact, she not only gets her hands dirty, but seems to go out of her way to find dangerous pastimes. In spite of her almost delicate appearance, she is perpetually bored and demands rigorous activity to keep her occupied. Since she has no desire to become anything like certain other occupants of the Weyr, however, not all of this 'rigorous activity' is confined to the furs. She enjoys a wide variety of rather tiring activities, a few of which include swimming, rock climbing, and going for vigorous runs, though her favorite of all is the stunt flying she and her dragon take part in. For some, it's hard to believe that such an attractive young woman is so vividly active. But it's not effortless; Aryna does make time for her appearance, although it doesn't take up her whole day by far. As far as significant others are concerned, Aryna loves everyone; she is free of discrimination when it comes to potential lovers. Women are just as likely to find themselves seduced and taken to the furs as men. Her method, though, is different from her father’s ‘love-em-and-leave-em’ technique. She’s genuinely interested.. for a time. But then, for whatever reason, she grows bored and cuts whatever poor individual she's snared loose to go look for a new love-slave.
Some brush it off as hormones, others are genuinely concerned by her habits. There’s no reason to be, however; she may stake a claim on quite a few, but very few actually make it to her furs despite her lack of discrimination against gender. Nonetheless, Aryna does have a penchant for breaking hearts, and doing so rather mercilessly. Crying has little effect on her, whining annoys her, and anything but cool acceptance of her decisions instantly loses respect points. Aside from her many relationship issues, Aryna is a lively, upbeat girl with energy to spare. She doesn’t seem to realize that she’s no longer a two-Turn-old with copious amounts of energy; now she’s a 24-Turn-old with copious amounts of energy.
There is an undeniable air of authority about the bluerider; she will not hesitate to issue a command for something. It doesn't even have to be in a dire situation; she has the guts to order people around, and she has the means (if not the rank) to back it up. Most of the time. Truly, there are many facets to her personality; Aryna is not hard to make friends with, and while she may not be top on the list of partners for a stable relationship, she is almost frighteningly loyal to her true friends. Outgoing and energetic, it's hard to resist the lure of her bright, spontaneous personality. Her temper, on the other hand, is not to be trifled with. She is not by any means difficult to anger, and unlike many, she acts immediately and explosively. Unlike many swift-acting tempers, Aryna's burns for a scarily long period of time. Anyone who angers her will earn her eternal enmity. It would have to be a monumental act indeed (or Turns and Turns of time) that would earn her forgiveness. She values the freedom to do what she wants when she wants to do it, and woe betide anyone who dares to tell her she can’t. She doesn’t take lightly to being refused something she sets her sights on, and displays an unshakable determination to get whatever it is, no matter the obstacles. This is usually where her cunning comes into play. Should pretty pouts and outright demands fail her, she will call out the heavy artillery: her mind. Aryna can be brutally manipulative, and seems to know just what strings to pull for which person to get what she wants.
History
Being born into Weyr life, Aryna undoubtedly takes for granted many freedoms others don’t have. She is the product of a young man who wanted nothing to do with children and a gullible young girl; she was only claimed by her father at all because her mother had been a virgin. Frightened by the prospect of raising a child, Aryna’s mother wanted nothing to do with the baby. Dumped in the crèche, it wasn’t long before Aryna was picked up again, this time by her uncle. Unlike his brother, he took the girl under his wing and actually raised her, hence Aryna not turning out to be a /total/ lost cause. As she grew older, she also grew apart from anyone who’d had any hand at all in her raising. The girl quickly established her independence, making it known that she could and would take care of herself. When she was just two years old, she attended her first flitter hatching and Impressed a little brown that she promptly dubbed Pretty. It was at this hatching that she received the small scar on her thigh when her Pretty gouged a furrow in her leg.
Aryna lived a very normal Weyr life, getting into mischief with the other brats and her flit, bossing the other kids around and manipulating her caretakers into providing her with whatever she wanted. As she grew, she became more and more like her father, something that made her uncle very uneasy. He attempted to instill a sense of propriety in the girl; for all his effort, he was.. somewhat rewarded. Aryna said ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and was relatively considerate of others. But he was still worried.
She was sixteen when she stood for the first time, and Aryna could hardly contain her excitement; what would become of her? Would she Impress, or be left Standing? She could hardly wait to see, but she felt she was young still, and wasn’t sure if she was quite ready to tie herself down with the care of a dragon. It seemed that she was right, for she was left on the Sands that day. Despite her earlier convictions that she wasn't ready for the responsibility of a dragon, Aryna was somewhat taken aback by the bitter disappointment that nearly overwhelmed her after the Hatching. But she had Pretty to turn to for comfort, and with her love of dragons, it wasn't long before she was taking every advantage of having friends in the weyrling barracks.
Two Turns passed and there was again a clutch on the Sands. Rather than being plagued with doubt over her last failure to Impress, Aryna was only more determined. She Stood with resolution, never wavering even as dragon after dragon emerged from the eggs, including a golden queen. But the girl knew the queen was not for her, and stepped away if the golden creature came near (though she'd admit it had been a difficult thing to do). She refused to give up until the last dragon had Impressed. And it looked as though that's how it was going to be, until a stunning blue emerged from his shell and made a beeline for His... a boy standing in front of Aryna. But this was not the case, as the blue hissed warningly before reaching out and hooking the boy's robe with sharp claws. If even for an instant the lad believed he'd Impressed, the contrary was soon made very apparent.
A savage mauling ensued, and the blue was not satisfied until the boy's blood soaked the Sand beneath. Only when the lad stopped moving did the hatchling appear to grow bored and finally turn his eyes on Aryna, who had (smartly) moved away from the angered hatchling. Do you find Yours distasteful? The tone and the question both threw her, and for a brief instant, Aryna almost thought the dragonet was referring to Pretty. But of course, that was silly, and so the young woman knelt and assured the blue that she did not, in fact, find him distasteful. He was the most wonderful, lovely, beautiful blue in all of Pern! Why would anyone find her Zarath distasteful?
Impression was only the start. Weyrlinghood came difficult for the pair. Because of Zarath's small size and unusual coloring, he was sometimes the butt of some jokes in the barracks. However, this behavior didn't last very long at all, as it was very quickly discovered that the fastest way to have an enraged Aryna bearing down on someone was to insult her dragon. She took insults to herself with a sort of laughing carelessness, completely unaffected, but any meant for Zarath were dealt with violently. And while she may have shrugged off insults directed at herself, Zarath soon proved himself to be the opposite, as apt to savage someone for insulting His as she was likely to maul someone for insulting him. Between the two of them, they managed to quell any hazing that started to flare up. They quickly got the message across that they were not to be trifled with.
After the weyrlinghood rockiness had smoothed out, life was better, but Zarath was always getting comments first on the hue of his hide and then on his size. It was something that irked Aryna greatly (and still does to this day), but she learned to let the important people off without a beating. Besides which, thanks to his unusual size, Zarath proved himself to be an excellent flier. His speed and agility was almost on par with that of most greens, and His encouraged him in his attempts to show off just how wonderful he was in the skies. It was in this manner that they discovered how much fun stunt flying could be. Frowned upon by most of the Weyr, this was part of what made it so much fun, and very little has changed about this pair since.
FOR DRAGONRIDERS:
Name: Zarath
Age: 7
Color: Blue
Description:
Although Zarath is beyond the shadow of a doubt very, very blue, he is barely larger than an average green, often making for some tactless remarks from some people. If his size doesn't get them, his color certainly does. It seems that within the egg, he'd decided to be a blue the likes of which few (if any) have ever seen. His hide is a dark blue, far beyond what's considered the 'normal' shades for a dragon. And yet, whenever he's hit by strong light, Zarath's hide gleams a vibrant electric blue that often has people staring in disbelief. He is completely uniform in color, with no variation in his shade whatsoever. Not even the tiniest dot of color is off anywhere in his hide and no markings are to be found.
Aiding in the 'small' appearance of him, Zarath's build is not even as bulky as some blues'. Long and slender in all aspects, the only thing he has going for him is his slightly longer than usual wingspan. However, it merely aids his agility, along with a long, whip-like tail that can have him turning almost on a wingtip. His neck is likewise lengthy and slim, and his habit of arching it frequently may be his attempts at making it less obvious. Perhaps the only thing short about him is his snout, although it is still slender. His body is also long, coupled with long limbs to compensate and it's no secret that he's decidedly awkward on the ground. But whatever this blue lacks in size, he more than makes up for with his flying abilities.
Personality:
Whether Zarath broke shell with his personality fully formed and intact or if having to deal with the teasing that comes from being different shaped his personality into what it is now is uncertain. Given the mauling he afforded to the unlucky boy who'd gotten in his way at the Hatching, some would choose the former. The blue has a personality that is almost completely opposite his rider's: rather than being friendly and outgoing, it's not just Zarath's hide that is dark and brooding. This dragon seems as though he's in a constant foul mood, and while this isn't the truth most of the time, it is for much of it. He's more tolerant of other dragons than he is of humans, though he has no qualms about snapping at them either if they give him just cause.
However, Zarath is more like His than first impression gives away. He works in a sort of backwards manner from His Aryna, who is generally accepting of others until they do something stupid; instead of this, he accepts no one until they've proven to him that they're worthy of his respect and acceptance... neither of which is easy to gain from the blue. He's a harsh critic indeed, deliberately looking for the faults in everything and everyone (although he rarely, if ever, states them aloud to anyone). Even of the few lucky enough to be tolerated and even accepted by this dragon, only His is truly perfect in his eyes. Despite all of his own faults, however, Zarath's mind is as quick as his turns and as sharp as his claws, and nothing seems to escape the blue's notice. But he is, after all, only a blue, and it may not occur to him to speak of something of importance until later.
To the few who know him well, Zarath seems much less threatening and indeed he is. There are a few people aside from His that the dragon trusts at least somewhat and finds it all right to relax around. The blue deliberately builds up this ominous exterior, part of an old defense mechanism that's still in play. But don't be fooled; in this case, looks are not deceiving, and Zarath rarely hesitates to back up any threats issued on his part and makes no effort to hold his rider's temper in check if he finds it justifiable.
FOR THOSE WITH FLITTER(S):
Name: Pretty
Species: Firelizard
Age: 22
Color: Brown
Description:
A basecoat of soft mocha color coats this flit's body from snout to tail, but it seems to be only the first of many. Slightly darker browns whorl across the lighter basecoat, giving him an almost brindle appearance. Dark chocolate colors swirl across the espresso in a few rare wisps here and there, though they're mostly confined to his "points", the tip of his tail, snout, ridges, and of course his legs, creeping up them as though someone's dipped the flit's legs in dark chocolate. His tiny claws are translucent, making them appear smaller or shorter than they really are.
Built on the small side of average for a brown, Pretty is neither long nor short, bulky nor slim. He's comfortably in the middle, as though he's made up his mind that his appearance is all the uniqueness that he could tolerate. His wings are large, both in length and width which makes him a strong flier. He is decently agile for a brown, but he doesn't hold a candle to the blues and greens on that aspect, and he certainly doesn't try. After all, he is no dragon!
Personality:
Some find him sweet, but others may think the brown is annoying. His moods change as the sun rises and sets; some days he may be quite happy to bustle about and get into things. Other days, it seems that the little brown just wants to be left alone to sleep. Aryna chalks it up to the fact that little Pretty isn't exactly a fresh spring flitter anymore. Never one to be unfriendly, Pretty often gifts people with whatever he's found on the day's search: a pretty piece of rock, a half-eaten fish, or even that hair clip he stole from the Weyrwoman last week. He's very generous indeed, and sometimes he doesn't understand why people get upset with some of the things that he brings them.
More independent than most flitters, Pretty will flit here and there without hesitation whether Aryna is present or not. He has no qualms about going where he will, but of course he always returns to his bonded and the big blue one. Even on his "clingy" days, the brown is not one to to make a nuisance of himself... something for which many, including his own bonded, are grateful for.
