.) First and foremost, before anything else on Sanctum Weyr, you must be able to write. While everyone makes typos and misspells a few words, if you are not capable of forming a coherent sentence, or if you are fond of using chatspeak all over the place, or simply believe a roleplaying game should consist of "*nods* If you say so." then you are on the wrong forum. Sanctum Weyr does not expect novel-length posts; we do expect you to put forth some effort. One and two line posts are simply unacceptable. If you need help, or can't reply to a post, ask. And yes, you are expected to completely read the post before yours in a one-by-one roleplay, and all the posts by administrators in major events such as clutching. Failure to do this continually will have consequences for you in the roleplay.
.) You are not allowed to godmode/metaplay/powerplay another person's character, and shy of administrators in major events/plots (such as being mauled in a hatching, which will occasionally occur), no one will be allowed to do any of these things to you. Powerplaying is saying what another character does, when it is not included in their posts. (Example: She saw Liyanna turn and bow to her, stating how wonderful she was.) If you have permission from the other player, please state it in an out of character note. Metaplaying is that wonderful habit some roleplays develop of mindreading. Your character would not know what another character is thinking/feeling and please do not pretend that they do. An occasional correct guess for a particularly intuitive character is understandable. However, constantly, this is exceptionally irritating and will garner you a warning. Last but not least, godmoding is when your character is perfectly beautiful, good at everything, the most talented singer, dancer, healer, weaver, et cetera. Everyone has flaws. Flaws are fun. Play them.
.) Dragonriders of Pern is an exceptionally long series. There are very many books. I do not expect you to have read them all. However, I would ask that you have some basic knowledge of the Pern universe if you decide to roleplay here. In other words, I don't want to see someone with a computer or anything like that. If there's anything you're unsure on, just ask. No one will scorn you for being confused, and it is better to confirm than simply babble nonsense and make yourself look bad. Questions aren't a sign of ignorance; refusing to ask them is. But if you've read just one of the Pern books, you're probably going to be okay on Sanctum Weyr, so don't worry. Things here aren't that complicated.
.) I don't care what you see on other sites, but on Sanctum Weyr, there is no such thing as a queen only candidate. Girls are allowed to be candidates, and they stand to impress Golds, Greens, and very rarely, blues. You can state that you'd like a queen, but do not be distraught if you do not receive them. Queens are very rare and will be awarded to roleplayers based on a number of reasons, including but not limited to: Activity, Roleplaying Ability, Reliability, and Responsibility. Yes, the people who receive them will have to fit as a queenrider, but that is not the only thing I take into account. And no roleplayer will receive special treatment. Going into a hatching, every heterosexual girl will be considered for a queen if there is a queen egg. And I will state if there is or if there is not.
.) Do not make cookie cutter candidates. I don't want Lessa and F'lar ripoffs running around on Sanctum Weyr. I like them just as much as the next person, but every character should be unique, with their own supply of strengths and weaknesses that set them apart and define them. Odds are, if you make a character specifically aiming for one color, you probably won't get it anyway, because everyone's interpretation is different, and I design the basic traits of dragon hatchlings before I pick who they Impress to, and then try for the best match. In other words, if you make an arrogant guy who is a good leader, he may still end up a brownrider.
.) You may - and are encouraged to - make dragonriders. However, queenriders will not be accepted, and you may not have a bronzerider as your first character unless you have run it by me first. This is because I like to make sure that the bronzerider roleplayers on Sanctum Weyr are responsible enough for the position. I'm not going to be crazy restrictive on this, but I would like people to talk to me first before making them. Bronzeriders run the chance of potentially becoming Weyrleader at some point, as well as Wingleaders. I would like to make sure that the people who hold these positions are responsible enough to play them. The characters don't have to be; the roleplayers do. If that doesn't make sense to you, then you probably shouldn't make a bronzerider, I'm sorry.
.) Surprise! Firelizards. Where do I begin with firelizards? Let me start with the most important rule: You may not make a character starting with a metallic firelizard. I realize this may sound harsh, but as Sanctum Weyr grows, you will find firelizard hatchings going on more and more often as I happen to love them, and bronzes and a few queens will be Impressed on the board. You may start with one firelizard, of either green, blue or brown color, but I request that these be kept to a minimum, for as I said, there will be several flitter clutches on the board, and the less firelizards you have, the more likely you will be to Impress one in character.
.) HADs are not welcome on Sanctum Weyr at this time. I may make an exception if someone sends me a story that blows my mind, but odds are, if you make an HAD, your chance to Impress a dragon will be significantly reduced. Not because dragons don't like HADs but because an HAD will not be allowed to be a candidate. If you're particularly bold, send me your story, and I'll read it over. But don't get your hopes up, as I'm telling you now, unless you make my jaw drop and make me wonder where you've been all my life and whether or not it is possible for me to bear your children, the answer will likely be no.
.) No flaming/fighting/public humiliation (this includes TPing anyone's house unless I'm invited) on Sanctum Weyr. I consider myself at least moderately fair on most subjects and if you and another member have a problem, even if that member is me, it should be kept private and I will do what I can to work things out if you ask me to. Do not fight on my chatbox. Do not fight on my forum. I am not above banning people for this, even my friends. Flaming won't be tolerated. This does not apply to characters hating each other. Please, feel free to let your characters rip one another's throats out just as long as it's not godmoded. But if you have a problem with someone, and you can't get it resolved, either drop it or ask me and I'll find a way to settle it. Don't duke it out publicly for everyone to read. No one wants to read that, and I win all arguments anyway.
.) In character is in character; out of character is out of character. There is no combining of the two. If your character is disliked by someone's, that does not mean they dislike you. If someone insults your character, don't take it personally. If someone does something that spurs conflict with your character, this is not a personal attack on you. Distance yourself and accept that what happens on the board is just a roleplay. This helps to keep a friendly environment. This is easier to do if you don't make characters based off of yourself, just as my advice. If I find out anyone is flaming anyone else, even privately, over an in character matter, I will step in, and as before stated, I win all arguments.
.) Plagiarism of anything from Sanctum Weyr will not be tolerated. If you take my story, my characters, my graphics, my rules, I will hunt you down and make you wish you were never born. I will catch you, because I have ways of checking that sort of thing, and if you are caught taking things from my site, I will request you take it down. If you do not, I will report your site to your host. Rules, descriptions (as in dragons) and things like that may be borrowed, if you ask me. I am usually cool with that. But don't take without permission. Very little irritates me more. I don't care how "depressed" you are, or how "emotional" your story is. There is no excuse for plagiarism.
.) On Sanctum Weyr, my word is law. You don't have to like me, but if I say for you to stop arguing, you d**n sure better do it. I don't consider myself unreasonable in the requests I make and I will be happy to listen to your side of any argument, but once I tell you to stop doing something, you do it. That's that. I worked hard on this site and no one person, no matter how much I make like them, will ruin it for the other members. I won't stand for it.
