Weyrwoman Liyanna was right about checking in the lower caverns for charcoal. Minji couldn't believe her luck on the fact that the workers down there had given her what seemed like an unlimited supply of the writing utensil. The only problem was now, because she was given alot of charcoal, she still had a small amount of workable paper in which to draw on. Surely she'd be in need of more by the time this sevenday was over, and she wasn't going to live on day without having sketched anything.. That was just unethnical to her and who knew if it'd cause any long term damage to her fingers for not drawing in the one days time.
At reaching the main area of the candidate barracks, Minji looked about at the two entrances that would lead to either the males dormitory, or the females. There was no time to waste just standing where she was. Surely there would be something to look forward to when she had settled down in the females section and took claim of one of the beds.
Between looking from the two sides, Minji took the left one and found out that, surely this was indeed the females side. Once inside, Minji let a long whistle draw out as she placed her bag upon the third cot on the right hand side. "This is definently something to put into my book when I get the time.. And chance..." She spoke this to herself as she scanned the area. By far no one else was in here, but she did not find a need to pick a cot that was closest to the exit, yet too far away. This spot just seemed right, and if someone else wanted it that bad, well, surely it would come to that. There were always other ways to come about it, and fighting really wasn't on her agenda.
When Minji placed all of her things where she deemed good, Minji gathered up her art stuff and headed toward the entrance. Her belt was on, she had her sketch book with her, and her other sketchbooks were locked in a chest big enough to fit her books and placed beside her cot. Hopefully the people of the Weyr were trustworthy and wouldn't snoop about her things. No one would really be able to get into her chest without have snatched the key from her belt, and it would be a sharding hard thing to try to do considering her belt is always worn.
Once everything was checked and accounted for, Minji headed out the entrance and into the main room. From there, the young candidate took a seat in one of the many chairs, though she picked a chair that was closest to a window. From this spot, she would be able to allow light to shine upon her book while she sketched, but of what, she had no idea. The room was bare, the females room was bare, and she wasn't in the mood to see if anyone was in the males side. So, huffing in a frustrated tone, Minji looked about before down at her book and just skimming through. Surely an idea would pop into her mind, or something that would be worth drawing.

Minji was not quite as alone as she had thought ... Lace was currently on her knees behind a couple of chairs, her long delicate fingers pressing softly into the rug. Oh bother, where was that needle? If someone were to step on it ... the girl froze, hearing the unmistakable sound of the gentle pit-patter of someone entering the room. Ooh, how embarrassing this was! Here she was in her own hand-made simple, yet pretty brown dress, groping around behind the chairs. Aah well, there was not much she could do about it at the moment ... she needed to find that needle before someone stepped on it. She carefully swept her hand a little further out, and felt something small brush against her fingers. Aha, here it was!
Hmm ... but now what to do? Lace really did not want to scare this poor girl or boy to death ... it was obvious that her bag had not been seen propped up next to the rounded chair, and she had not been discovered as of yet, either. A soft 'ow!' escaped her lips as the tip of the needle poked into the palm of her hand, probably revealing herself more casually than she could have possibly planned.
As she rose, she bonked her head on the side of her chair and managed another 'ow'. ... That one had been planned, but it sounded genuine and made her look as if she had never noticed anyone enter in the first place; and plus, such quiet sounds should not have scared the other person too badly ...
When Lace turned to discover the other girl sitting across the room, the light caught her thick light-blond hair and the golden thread that made pretty designs a the hems of the dress and on the short sleeves.
"Oh, hello there! I dropped my needle, so I apologize for not announcing myself earlier." Lace's light blue eyes almost seemed to glitter in the happiness of meeting another candidate, actually rather grateful that it was another girl instead of a boy ... perhaps this obvious artist would understand about dropping items? She sat herself into the comfortable cushioned chair, her bare feet tucked under her into a relaxed position. From her bag she pulled out a pretty, light-blue peasant top. Lace draped it over her lap partially, picking up the half-made sleeve. She had started this maybe three days ago ... and now, she had just one more sleeve to finish. Threading her needle with her graceful fingers, Lace set to work with a confident smoothness.
"I see you are an artist ... may I inquire as to what you are drawing?" Lace asked pleasantly in her soft but audible voice, sparing a glance up to the other girl while using her left hand to tuck a section of her hair behind an ear. She had not introduced herself yet, for it did not seem proper at the moment -- depending on the tone the girl answered with would either give her the opening to do so, or set in stone she would rather not have her name be known. Of course, she would love to make a friend ... but this depended on the other person as well.

When a soft thump was made by the other person within the living quarters, Minji couldn't help but to look up abit surprised, as if she was losing her mind or something of that sort. Gazing in all directions, it was then made asure that she was most definently not losing her mind. The person, or thing, that had procured the noise revealed themself, and Minji watched as the other person apologized and then headed for a chair, later revealing a piece of fabric and was starting to finish whatever it was. Of course, Minji had an idea as to what it was, but she remained quiet on her behalf so far.
As she was asked of what she was drawing, Minji placed her book down, as tucked her charcoal away into on of her many pouches before looking at the other person with her light, baby blue eyes; her dark brown hair covering part of her face from when she was looking down. Gently pulling the strands of brown from her face, Minji smiled warmly and tucked them behind her ear as to what the other lass did. "Indeed I am an artist.."
Her voice was calm and collected. She was used to, by now, of being called 'the Artist' within the Weyr, and she couldn't blame anyone else at this particular moment. Gazing at the sewess, Minji continued on. "Right now I'm not really drawing anything..I'm on what we artists sometimes calls an 'artists' block' as I've no inspiration at this moment of time." She grinned before flashing into a full-fledged smile. She wasn't one to make such a bad reputation of herself, but she wasn't one to neglect another person who was wanting to start a conversation.
Looking down to her sketchbook, Minji then started to speak up again. "I'm Minji, by the way.. And I understand about dropping things." Her smile still remained as she watched the other woman with interest in her sewing. Minji wasn't exactly the best sewess around, but she was at least decent when it came to doing small projects that were none the least the best.
At that, Minji tucked her book beside her upon the chair she was sitting in and crossed one of her legs beneath her as she continued to watch Lace. Surely the other person would introduce herself soon, otherwise Minji would refer to her as the Sewess of the Weyr.. Not that she wouldn't care if she, herself, was called the Artist. In fact, she was kind of used to it by now.

Usually under such circumstances, Lace would have been seen as a bit shy in front of this girl ... however, she chuckled when Minji mentioned the artists block.
"Oh yes, I too understand that. I take sewing to be a kind of art, for I design and draw dragons ... but with needle and thread. However, it is not often I get such a block ... too many things inspire me." she looked up again and smiled as the girl introduced herself. That was good, that certainly meant that she had not disturbed her too greatly! It was a good opening, especially when she expressed her understanding of dropping things.
"Minji, it is a pleasure to meet you! I am Lace; nothing more and certainly nothing less." Her attention averted down for a minute or so as she rounded up her stitching. She made a satisfied noise as the last stitch made its mark on the smooth fabric, and she carefully placed what was left of the delicate thread and needle back into her bag. She stood and held up her creation to the sunlight, observing her work.
It was a pleasant blue with golden thread stitchings ... and little gold dragon designs around the collar that flashed prettily in the light. She smiled, feeling very accomplished. She sleeves were just right ... she had had a hard time trying to figure out whether she wanted them long and poofy or short and casual. The long and poofy would have been fine, however ... the short and casual would show off the delicate skin of a girl rather than hide it.

Minji nodded her head in an understanding way, this other person sure seemed to have quite the knack of sewing brilliant designs. When she went to saying that she didn't often get blocks, Minji screwed her face up a little and giggled slightly out of her own amusement of something before she spoke up. "I get alot of inspiration, but because I'm in a room, I can't find anything really to inspire me." She grinned whole-heartedly and then waited as the other person continued.
When the girl repeated her name, and then introduced herself as Lace, Minji nodded her head and closed her eyes as she picked her book from the side and held it close to her chest, smiling. "Lace.. Something that can easily be remembered as a rider." She opened her eyes, and her light baby blue eyes shown with kindness for a dearly beloved as she eyed Lace finish the last of her stitchwork and placed the needle back within her bag, standing up shortly to examine her work.
"That is indeed a beautiful tunic... If you don't mind my asking, how much would you be willing to fit someone such as myself? Surely, if I can image myself as a rider, love to get something such as that, only in the color of my dragon." She grinned sheepishly as she, too, stood up and shuffled at first hesitantly toward Lace, but then with confidence that they were by far considered to be aquaintances, if not friends at this moment in time. Minji, as anyone else, was curious about other peoples artwork, and sewing was indeed a work of art, given that it was by the hand of a very well good sewing hand.

"Lace.. Something that can easily be remembered as a rider."
Lace beamed at that, though she wondered is Minji was saying that she as a person would be remembered, or just her name. Either way, it sounded like a good compliment. Lace smiled again as Minji came near, officially extending a hand of friendship ... a gesture that Lace was only too happy to offer back.
"It may be that you will get this very shirt! I have made this for whomever gets to be queenrider. But yes, I will be only too happy and obliged to fit you for a top design of your choice if you so happen to get another color." Lace pushed aside her hair again, then carefully folded up the top. "I do not request payment as of yet, so consider it to be a gift."
Oh, how happy she was! Minji was such a neat person, it was just pure luck that Lace had managed to meet her on her first day here.
"Were you born in Sanctum Hold? I have heard of a few artists but ... I was the type where I was being mobbed by the older women and hardly had the time of day to see people of my own age group." Lace chuckled, remembering the many days where she would sit with the older women and help them repair various items such as rugs, clothing, curtains and the like.

Minji? A goldrider? Now, that was something that never really got into the young artist's mind. She, like many of the other female candidates, had a fair chance of Impressing, but Minji honestly did not know if she would be passible for the hatchling gold to even consider looking. Why? Because for one, Minji didn't think herself worthy of such a high rank, and two, she was THE shortest female candidate thus far of all the females. Why should something as high as a gold even consider of Impressing to such a small person? But the fact that Lace had offered to fit her even if she doesn't get gold was comforting. Lace was an amazing person that Minji has ever seen outside her own craft, let aside her sister; but that was only because they been together and her sister was a role model to her. Course, they never did the same craft together.
Once Lace started to fold up the fabric, Minji watched and just listened. Hearing the part that, by far, there would be no payment, which had almost caused her to protest. When Lace asked her as to whether she was born in the Hold, Minji smiled and nodded.
"Indeed I was.. From the northern part of the Hold to be general." She paused to think of what else to say before continuing. "Alot of the artists prefered to travel either to the Weyr or valley constantly, so that could be a reason as to why not alot of people saw us.. But then again, some people knew just where to look at times. As for being constantly nagged at by the older women, I know how you feel; except I was usually nagged at by my teacher, classmates, or whoever was there at the moment and the not being around other people my age.. Whenever I had free time, I was spending alot of my time with the holdbrats."
She smiled and winked in a friendly way, indicating that, the valley was one of her favorite places to go. As she shifted her weight, Minji then walked over to the book and picked it up. "I've got lots of pictures of the holdbrats playing. Though the real thing was much more cuter than it is on paper."
