Up above one of the hollows of the lower caverns, on a narrow ledge of the rock face, perched a mildly amused Rylvan who was avoiding one of the women from the kitchen. She almost had the chance to put Rylvan to work, but the dark-haired youth had managed to escape her searching eyes--with a few bits of fruit, bread, and meatrolls to sate him for the rest of the day. He had stashed the food in a small bag that was attached his belt.
Fingers curled around the lip of the rock as Rylvan peered down over the edge to watch the movements of the people below. His gray eyes then rose up to the sky and higher nooks of the cliff. It would take a while for him to adapt to life at the Weyr. A real bed of his own to sleep in, dragons everywhere to admire, and food--oh the food, anytime he wanted and he didn't even have to plan to get it. No one understood why he thought it was very bizarre.
Dressed in a pair of faded weyrhide trousers tucked into knee high boots, and tunic with belt tightly cinched around his waist, Rylvan effortlessly climbed down from his perch. The clothes were forced on him from people in the Weyr. They were a bit too big for his currently thin frame. At least the tunic was dark in color, it made the silken wraps that Rylvan had crisscrossing up his arms less noticeable. He wore them over the sleeves to keep the fabric from billowing about. Loose fabric catches on corners, which was highly annoying in his profes--er, his past profession. Besides, it hid the ugly burn on his palm and the two small daggers pressed up against the inside of his forearms; hidden from sight and kept in place by the wraps.
Rylvan began to wander off, going anywhere but into the caverns to be put to work. He would much rather perch somewhere high and observe the daily routines of the Weyr. He wanted to learn the quirks of each person--to be able to know each of them without them ever glancing at him. He wanted to be able to plan around their lives in a way that would benefit him. It had worked wonderfully for him at the Hold. But this place was, obviously, different.
First, disregarding all else, Rylvan decided he must familiarize himself with the terrain..

For whatever reasons came to Minji's mind, she did not like it. In fact, she was regretting having decided to not bring her sketchbook with her. Even though she was used to not having anything in her arms to hold, it sometimes gave her a bad feeling that someone was going through her sketches in her chest that was under her cot in the girls domain. Though, even if Minji didn't have her book with her, she still had her belt clasped to her waist with its many things slightly muffled as she skipped through the Weyr. Why? Because she felt like it, and focusing on other things helped to relieve her mind of the said missing item at the moment.
It wasn't until Minji was traveling right behind Rylvan did she stop. He looked different, and thus, was another candidate within Sanctum Weyr. Looking about, and seeing that some of the other people where busy with other things, Minji walked over to his side casually before clearing her throat. "Hullo, you're a new face to the Weyr.." She smiled in a friendly gesture and was looking practically up to see him. Why was everyone so sharding bigger than her? Mostly all of the females were, the males were for sure, and even some of the weyrbrats were taller than her. But size wasn't on her mind at this moment. Surely the last thing to worry about was height.... The book..
Closing her eyes and scrunching her face slightly, Minji oped them again to reveal her baby blue eyes toward the new person. They, themselves as usual, were sparkling happily, but yet, they spoke no words to express how they were feeling. If anything, they always agreed to what Minji's mind told her mouth to say, or express.
When there was still a moments pause, Minji shifted her weight to one side and held her one hand in the other. By doing so, Minji was twisting the thick banded ring on her left forefinger until she just moved over to the ring upon her thumb and then back to her forefinger. The young candidate, and artist, had meanings for these rings, and yet, she would never tell a sould as to what they stood for. She had lots of things that she would never say to anyone, and yet, she was usually willing to say if asked, and even so, she would hesitate on answering. But enough of that talk, Minji a-waited to what the response may be from this person. Surely he would be another friend to always bear in mind. And even if they should not be friends, he would still be remembered whether he wanted to or not. He really didn't have a choice in what Minji thought, and that was good.

Upon hearing approaching footsteps, Rylvan slowed his pace but did not stop and look over his shoulder. He expected the approacher to pass him during his slow pace, or turn off in another direction. Each step sounded light--thus not the angry stomping of the kitchen woman coming after him in haste. There was no threat present, so Rylvan did not flee from sight or quicken his pace. If he chose to venture a guess, he would assume that it was one of the weyrbrats heading for the lake.
Odd, the footsteps had suddenly halted for a brief second. Rylvan almost gave into the impulse to look behind him, but instead Minji answer his silent question by stepping up next to him. A fleeting side-long glance was cast at the girl before Rylvan bluntly ignored her presence. Hmph, she was small enough to be considered a weyrbrat, so his guess was good as right as far as he was concerned.
Despite not looking at his sudden company, Rylvan could tell she was staring at him. Go away already, he complained to himself while keeping his eyes on the worn foot path. Sure, he had heard her words, but there had not been a question in her statement. Thus it just helped the young man with his firm decision to play mute. It was a moment's silence before Rylvan again let his gray eyes glance at her small frame. He caught sight of her rings, and instantly the thief in him began to appraise their worth.
With a subtle shift, Rylvan began to walk off the path down the lake. He examined a jutting piece of stone off to his left, just low enough to be out of immediate eyesight and catch the foot if walked over. Would she continue to follow him until he gave a response? He'll see, Rylvan decided while walking near the rock to.. well, test if the girl paid any attention to her surroundings. Would she trip? Only time would tell. Right before that telling moment, Rylvan gestured slightly at the jutting rock with a soft spoken. "Watch out."

Well, at least he acknowledged her in some way instead of ignoring her.. What was with him to just ignore her? Surely there was a reason, and as for him not even responding, well, let's just say that irritated Minji slightly, but not overly so. Why get fussy over something that can't really be helped?
If it was playing the quiet game that the person was wanting to do, fine, but Minji was going to lose at it anyways and keep at it until this person said something to her.. A gesture was made by the taller person and then a quiet 'Watch out' was heard as Rylvan started away from her and toward the lake. Well, it was a start of something. But was he trying to indicate something that Minji just didn't want to grasp? Surely not.. Wait, did he just basically point out that she was going to trip over that stone?
Not wanting to deal with this intolerance, Minji followed suit. She'll let off once he responds to her. She would rather be badly hurt than give up on knowing a possible candidate for the following clutch. Better to know everyone now so that she could get their cooperation later along the road in life. As she followed, she just merely stayed a few feet from the other person, but still followed. Her blue eyes scanned the ground every now and then so as not to trip over anything, but it really didn't help any as Minji slipped, but caught herself. A small gasped was let loose from that, but luckily she didn't fall as what this person was probably hoping would happen.
Taking another step, Minji continued on without any other slip-ups. Before too long, Minji spoke up again, this time, having to do with introducing herself. "Erm, you didn't quite say anything really except to..." A slip, and a fall. Minji was now sprawled on the ground with her legs beneath her as she sighed and then giggled softly to herself. Before long, she was laughing heartily, staying exactly where she was and acting as if nothing had happened. She was going to finish her thoughts.
"You know, you never quite said anything but to warn me.. If you want, I'll introduce myself." Her smile that formed from her laughter earlier was upon her as she looked up, though she still refused to pick herself up. She would eventually, but now, why should she? After a few seconds, Minji dusted what dirt was on her lap and then back to this person. "I'm Minji; a senior apprentice artist from the Hold.. Though now, I'm a candidate at the Weyr." Still Minji smiled warmly, and still Minji remained on the ground. Whatever he did, Minji was sure to remain behind him, though not in a stalkerish way, until something was said properly from this person. Hopefully, an introduction.

Bah, he should not have warned her of the obstruction.
Rylvan continued on, ever mindful of the girl following at his heels. His ears perked, metaphorically, at the sound of her slipping--but disappointment filled him when there was not a finale of a crash. Although, her gasp almost brought a smile to his lips. Oh, he did not want to case her harm, not really. But for the time being at least she was amusing him..
Ah, time did tell the truth after all. Rylvan stopped, then pivoted around to view the girl who had fallen. Strange, he thought while observing her laugh from her position on the ground. He did not understand at all why she found the situation funny--at least not when she was the one taking the fall. Rylvan tilted his head in question when Minji went on to introduce herself. An odd one to be sure, but she had mentioned being an artist and that seemed reason enough to Rylvan for her to be.. bizarre.
Stepping over to the now shorter girl, Rylvan doubled slightly and extended his hand that was mostly wrapped with the dark silk cloth. Briefly he wondered if she would accept his non-verbal offer, and would she use her hand that wore the rings? One could only hope..
"How long have you been at the Weyr?" He quietly question, avoiding a response that would give any information about himself. She seemed set on trying to make him talk, so he would--on his own terms. Besides, some people preferred to talk at length about themselves, maybe she would and it would exclude him from participating.

How odd.. When Minji tries to approach normally, this person doesn't really respond, though, when in an awkward situation, he does.. Well, either way, Minji was wondering as to what was really going on within this person's mind. She saw him give a quick glance at her rings when she was twirling them about her fingers, but anyone would do that when they saw all the rings upon Minji's nimble fingers. Of all the rings upon them, all were thick in width, yet there was one, unpon her right, ring finger.. Well, that one was very delicate as she would seem, but in reality, it was as strong as anything anyone could ever imagine it to really be.
When he offered his hand to help her up, after Minji's introduction, she gladly accepted. It did not matter if a ring was stolen, though she hoped to never lose a one. Should anything happen, she had a belt knife, and she knew how to use it..
What possibly caught the young woman off gaurd was when he actually spoke. When he finally did speak, Minji's eyes grew somewhat wide and her hand slipped from the pro-offered hand, causing her to fall on her butt for the second time, if not a somewhat like the first initial fall. Not that that really mattered, Minji actually got this person to talk, and it really was an impact on her. Sure, anyone could be withdrawn from other people, but when someone spoke when they didn't initially did so, it usually caused Minji to become, well, astonished.
As Minji recollected herself, Minji this time ignored the hand and just folded her hands about her lap, smiling innocently. "I've been here for some while to know myself about the area, though I'm still learning some new things about the Weyr and its people.. Surely you are cooping well since I haven't seen you until.. Well, moments ago." She shrugged slightly, her smile replaced with a neutral expression. Odd for someone to completely ignore introducing themself. However, at least this person was speaking.

Rylvan curled his fingers lightly around hers when she took his hand. The faintest amount of pressure was placed against her fingers, it would only take that slight touch to slide a loose ring off a finger, all unnoticed--but Rylvan did not get the chance because Minji slipped out of his grasp and fell back to the ground for a second time.
Also a bit stunned, Rylvan blinked rapidly at the other candidate. He nearly mirrored her reflection, but for entirely different reasons--for he wondered why she was looking at him like that. She was the one acting peculiar! Artists Rylvan mentally cursed as his expression shifted back to his previous, neutral demeanor. They were a dramatic sort of craftbreed--them and those harpers. Why, just look at her attracting attention by sitting on the ground and not taking his offered hand.
The wrapped hand returned to idle at his side, no longer itching to slip a ring from the girl's finger. And that smile at him, so innocent--so naive. Rylvan almost glared at the girl out of pure annoyance at her cheerful exterior. He knew full and well that he was not being courteous to her, so why did she insist on keeping that jovial attitude.
"Get up, you are causing a scene." He said curtly before turning on heel and heading back in his original direction, toward the lake. Rylvan did not like the unwanted attention they had been slowly gathering, thus he left with little care to whether or not Minji followed. As for her words, Rylvan glanced over his shoulder before holding two fingers up in the air--symbolizing how long he had been at the Weyr; two days.

While Minji was still on the ground, looking innocent, she hadn't really realized that there was a form of people grouping in to see the scene. She couldn't help that, and even if she could, at least it was getting some more amusing reactions from this person. But the sternness he possessed, made Minji wonder why he felt so. It soon became quite apparant that he was getting slightly peeved from her actions as the indication of him standing straight up and putting his clothed hand to his side. Why was his hand wrapped? Surely there would be a reason behind it if only Minji could get past his hard exterior.
From this person's rude response, Minji 'humphed' and then picked herself up. Giggling amusingly to herself as she dusted herself off and twisted each of her rings. Obviously he wasn't a happy person all around. Surely she would be able to loosen him up and show him how to have 'fun'. To which, it seemed like this person lacked every aspect of the meaning.
When Rylvan started to leave for the direction of the lake, he lifted his arm and held up two fingers. Minji rolled her eyes and smiled. Well. At least it was something, like the other non-verbal responses she recieved. Now, time to try another approach.. Something that would hopefully be unsuspecting, such as her falling. That was not planned...
Trotting to catch up, Minji soon was in stride, if not having to walk a bit faster to keep up with Rylvan's strides. "Sorry for the unwantingness of the group back there, but I was kind of surprised you actually talked.. Surely you will at least state your name?" She stopped shortly, whether this person went on or not was not of the importance, but she was determined to get some insights of this person. He has mentioned neither name, where he came from, or a crafting, if he had one. Why was he so enclosed? Well, Minji would find out sooner or later. But she was not the kind to nose about in other people's business.. Unless it was necessary and for the right reasons.

What a persistent little weyrbrat.
Rylvan couldn't help but let a wry smile pass momentarily over his lips. This girl must be very stubborn, he thought, or just dim-witted. People, by this point, usually took the unspoken hint to get lost. Alas, Rylvan nonchalantly shrugged, let the girl continue to follow him. He did not really care either way; for it would be her misery, not his.
By now they were at the edge of the lake in which a blue dragon was currently using. Rylvan took a moment to admire the beast before it dipped out of sight below the water's surface. His gray eyes then flicked over to where the rider was sitting on the shore. For now the rider was a stranger--it would take some time to learn names, their faces and more importantly, their dragons. Speaking of names..
"I would, if you only you would ask." His quiet voice spoke calmly with a hint of scorn in the words. "Not make statements and expect me to correct or indulge you with any information."
His earlier display of a ungracious nature had not deterred her, so Rylvan prodded a little further. She could not keep that smiling demeanor up for long, not against his brusque attitude. "I did not ask for you company and I did not ask for your name. So this conversation you are trying to have is clearly one-sided. I'm quite sure you can continue it without me."

Minji stopped where she was from behind this unknown person and just stared after him. If anything, he was the odd one.. Though Minji couldn't exactly blame him for the slight harshness he was mixing into his words when he spoke to her, however soft if was.
"Well, sorry to be such the persistant one, but I would like to know everyone within the Weyr.. Now, if that' is a crime, then I am sorry to have intruded on your day." Minji was kind of feeling bad about dogging this person, but who knew that he would just completely ignore her up until now. So, in surprising effects, whether he saw it or not, she bowed in her apology said and just stood planted where she was.
That was, until he went further into his words. Minji's smile demished slightly at these harsh words, but a faint appearance of her smile was still there. If now somewhat scared to reveal itself. Minji didn't know she intruded that far with this person. All she wanted was a name, and possibly where he came from. Nothing more and nothing less. Sometimes conversations just started when she asked, or introduced herself whether it was intended or not, but surely he didn't have to be this rash on her. If not having her apology accepted, then surely Minji got the hint that this person would not give in to releasing his brusque way, but at least Minji was apologizing in the first place and humbling herself.. If not being a little annoying and pesistant throughout the course.
"If you really wish to be alone, all you had to do was ask in a polite manner, or at least try.. Then again, there are the few men out there that could care less about others in any manner until later in life." Minji's worsd were coming out in the same brusque way that Rylvan's were coming, if not more, but Minji wasn't going to play nice and polite anymore. To which, would've made this person happy to know that he 'succeeded' in deminishing Minji's positive outlook toward him. But those words alone weren't all that were going to come forth.
"I know that you can make do without my company, but at least I was opening a hand of friendship, something that seems like you lack thereof. But if you wish to remian, forever more, friendles or completely ignored until you fill in that empty hole you would possibly even think of a heart, then fine and wait for your chance of Impressing a dragon. I'm pretty sure you would be quite pleased to Impress a dragon with your taste." By this time, Minji was releasing some of her bottled up anger upon this person, though she still managed to retain some of her gentle tone within her talk to this indignant person.
After her thoughts were mostly spilled out, Minji breathed a bit deeper before letting a slight huff go and started toward the lake anyway, though she bumped into him hard in the side on her way past him and in her utmost anger from him being quite rude up to that particular point to where Minji just had enough even through her means of ignoring his mean ways by being polite and cheerful. There were some people would would forever remain hard-headed no matter what. Rylvan, was one of those people to Minji.

Rylvan's impassive gaze noted the falter in Minji's smile. The hurt expression she allowed him to see was something he found to be more natural in comparison to her former bubbly happiness. No person was truly, blissfully content or overbearingly friendly. Anyone who played such a role was a liar; to themselves and to those they encountered. A harsh truth, but one that Rylvan believed and he was not about to make an exception for Minji.
Upon hearing her words, Rylvan merely blinked in surprise at the girl. Then, quite suddenly, he burst out in laughter that he was not fast enough to contain. The sound was genuine enough, but his humor was for all the wrong reasons. Was she trying to insult him? Oh no! He was going to be friendless and ignored! Oh woe is he! He had a hole in his heart too, oh how miserable his life must be. And to top it off, she still had not properly asked for his name! Rylvan continued to laugh until his breath gave out, reducing him to quietly snickering.
His eyes were bright when he finally turned them onto Minji. The dull gray color now took on the hue of silver, cold and brilliant as he smiled sweetly at the female candidate. “How presumptions of you say that I am friendless. Did it ever occur to you that I just don’t like you.” The thief tilted his head to one side, clearly mocking the girl with the light, playful tone he used. “Of course not, utterly infallible, you are just so kind, so friendly that everyone must adore you.”
Personally he found it sickening when people were so overly cheerful. There was that impulse in Rylvan that had wanted to hold Minji’s head under the water of the lake when she had bounded up to him with that initial ray of sunshine attitude. He didn’t want to drown her, heavens no, but maybe it would shake a dose of reality into the girl. Although, if she were one of those scary happy people, she’d probably thank him for letting her up from the water! Ha.
Rylvan turned his body out of Minji’s way when she attempted to bump him in passing. Years of moving through the crowded market square had taught Rylvan the passive reflex of slipping around and away from others to avoid collisions or bumps. At least she was finally, in a huff, leaving. It had not taken him long to reveal, for his own amusement, that the friendliness she extended did, in fact, not extend very far at all. It went to strengthen the truth that people only cared for themselves and their kindness only lasted as long as they were flattered, or otherwise selfishly pleased in return.
Minji had not gotten his name easily, and thus she scorned him?
Again Rylvan snickered at her retreating back. If only she had just asked him normal questions instead of trying to kindly manipulate information out of him, he would have answered in the beginning. Shrugging the matter aside, Rylvan turned to head toward the waterfall that spilled into the lake—leaving Minji to savor her huffy mood alone.
