” Carrying around meatrolls, tsk..” ”What can I say, Liyanna. Life teaches you to always be prepared for anything, right?”
A smile was on her features, the female nodding to the Weyrwoman as she declined a meatroll. Though half the reason of her carrying meatrolls was Chast, another was a faint remembering of the past. Just in case she was ever trapped or stranded for hours on a dark and humid crevasse . Of course, that time Chast had been there with her – and if it ever happened again she hoped it was no different. Still, she’d be very glad not to relive that experience again. And speaking of the little darling, the Blue had noticed Minji’s gaze on him, tentatively moved closer to the Candidate to test just how much he could get away with. An inquisitive chirp was given, while eyes whirled in pleased blues and greens. Truth to be told, he liked attention – and petting.
He watched the lass take a meatroll as well, though his own stomach was now bulging from his gorging. He was more than satiated already, he would not be pestering her for a free bite. A careful eye was kept on the large Blue, just in case some of his mischievousness begun to rise, though otherwise Amir remained listening to Minji. So this was how a portrait was organized, before the piece of art was created… Come to think about it, she had rarely seen Liyanna in extravagant gowns or formal wear, save for those occasions that required them. In fact, she always seemed to be in simple clothing, and wher-hide boots. ’I suppose she isn’t fond of dresses, then?’ Now, all the more, the female was curious as to how Liyanna would reply. Would she agree to wear a dress?

Hmm, formalwear. Honestly, the heat of the Sands was most problematic for one's feet, since she had no intentions of touching it with anything but. However, the sandals designed for the Sands were not exactly fashionable with dresses or gowns. Not that Liyanna was exactly a fashion icon. Quite the opposite, really. She often spent her time sitting around in what other people deemed boring clothing, and boring colors. Dark colors or pale, drab things that would not draw amazing amounts of attention. She was Weyrwoman but that didn't mean she had to be the center of attention. Still, she knew enough to know how tacky she would look wearing a formal gown with the sandals... maybe one that covered them, or maybe she could sit on Aria to avoid having to deal with the Sands.
"I have several formal gowns, but none that look appealing with the sandals worn in the Hatching Grounds," she admitted with a slight shrug. "I will think of something. As for single or both of us, you are the artist, not me. I am willing to do either depending on what you would prefer, though if you wish us both, you will have to pick a time when Aria is willing to allow others onto her Sands. Certainly not during one of the touchings. She has been edgy about that ever since..." Ever since Freseath went between that last time. Silly beast.
Maybe she could wear the gown with the low cut collar and the long hem line. She'd only worn it once, because she thought it was too nice for anything shy of a promotion ceremony, but perhaps for a portrait it would be satisfactory. Certainly it was the nicest gown that she owned. Perhaps it was odd that a Weyrwoman owned only a handful of formal gowns, but anyone who knew Liya would know that she deemed a handful to be too many. She was a dragonrider, not some prim and proper Lady Holder and she did not need dresses to show off her status. She had that in her posture, her eyes, and the great golden form that usually fell asleep somewhere behind her while she dealt with people.
Turning to Amir, Liya clicked her tongue before asking softly, "What do you think - white, cream or burgundy?" For the dress, of course. There were only three she would really consider, and those were the colors. The burgundy one was long with a deep swooping neckline that made her look more feminine than she appreciated, while the cream was very modest and looked more suited to a child. And the white was white. She didn't like wearing white too often if she could help it. She had naturally fair skin and stark black hair; white made her look ashen and she hated the appearance. Still, it was better than some of the others. A neutral opinion was called for.

Waiting from a response from the Weyrwoman, Minji saw that the blue had moved closer. Though, without the rights of Amir, Minji was not going to touch the creature, no matter the temptation. She could wait for until after she had asked Amir for permission, but until then, it was look but don't touch deal with her.
With the response from Weyrwoman Liyanna stated, Minji crinkled her nose a bit. The answer of whether to do singles, or doubles were really something that Minji had a hard time chosing between, though in the case of Liyanna, she had a good idea, or so, that's what she thought it to be at the moment. When the Weyrwoman turned to Amir for a suggestion of color ideas, she waited, of course, Minji would wait patiently as she probably wasn't even asked the question in general, though she did keep repeating herself of the statement she would say whenever the color had been decided.
While Minji waited, the words that would be said for the behalf of doing singles or a couple formed within her mind. 'I can do singles, one of you where ever you wish, Ariannalyth, if I am permitted, from the entry way of the hatching grounds; although the Stands would do as well.' That was part of her statement, yes. But it still formed on. 'Perhaps after the hatching is over, which I can understand won't be until a few more sevendays, I can do Ariannalyth then, and then do a double.' So far that seemed reasonable. Do a portrait of Liyanna now, Ariannalyth either from the entrance or the Stands, and both after the hatching. Three full portraits would be nothing to Minji, and she would be willing to wait a long time to do this project. It was, if anything to Minji, a high honor.

Sha had been watching the antics of her little Chast, amused at them. Her little darling was such an attention hog when he had the chance. Eyes blinked as he looked upwards at Minji, wondering just why he wasn't being pet or cradled around yet. Normally it worked with the other Weyrbrats, they could never resist petting him! {ChastLove, she is not a child. Now behave, she is busy now.} A faint thrill of disappointment left the flitter, before he sat his plump self on the ground besides Minji, continuing to watch the artist. He refused to give up! He would get attention!
"What do you think - white, cream or burgundy?" "Mmm? Oh! Hmm, let me think for a second."
The Weyrwoman's question had startled her lightly, turning her gaze away from Chast to look back at the dark haired woman. Well, it was hard to pick a dress just fro color, without even looking to see how they were made and what designs they might hold. Still, she could try. White... Liyanna was of a fair color of skin, and dark hair. Though white might make her look like a ghost it could be a nice contrast to her hair... Should she do a single portrait. The cream... It was hard to ell, the shades could flutter from an almost white tone to some shades nearing a light brown. She had no idea just where, exactly, the cream's color shades were settled, and in any case it sounded too neutral, too... Not attention capturing. And the burgundy, now there was a color that was attractive to the sight, not to mention attention-drawing. Plus, it was sure to be a nice contrast with Ariannalyth's hide, should the Weyrwoman decided on doing a portrait with her Gold as well.
"I was thinking that, if doing a portrait of you alone, white sounds like the best fit. Now, if it were to have both you and Ariannalyth in it... I think burgundy might be the best choice, it would be a nice contrast against her golden hide, or so I think."
She might be no artist, but Amir was neither fashion deprived of color-dumb. She knew some colors didn't look good with others no matter how much one may try, and others looked simply astounding together. Like the blue of her firelizard and the fiery shades of her hair. Blue and orange looked so good together, it seemed only natural she had impressed him out of any other. But back to the conversation at hand, no?

"The entry of the hatching grounds would be difficult given that there is no place for you to sit, and she would not allow chairs to be brought to the Sands," Liyanna said simply. It seemed like an obvious statement, but she was not the type of person to expect others to find the same things obvious as she did. Actually, Liyanna tended to have a low opinion of the human population, and as a result, she assumed people did not pick up on things even if she happened to. It was condescending, it was mean, and it was perfectly normal for Liyanna. So she stated what should have - could have - been obvious, and did not seem to care whether or not verbalizing that fact could be perceived as an insult. Minji reminded her a little of a frightened animal, the way her eyes looked - like a child, or a wild creature of the jungles. It was interesting, and that was likely the only reason that Liya hadn't been outwardly nasty to the girl. She was... familiar, in her own way. She reminded Liya of the way Aria had stumbled so haphazardly across the Hatching Sands as but a hatchling, covered in goo from her egg... except that Minji did not seem as likely to become as strong as Aria did. But people could be surprising.
Shaking her head, Liyanna turned her gaze out toward the lake and the water, rippling as the wind blew against it. "Aria insists you stay in the Stands, if you are to do her portrait before the clutch hatches. So that you are far enough that she might watch you. She will not budge on that front. As for how many you do, you are the artist. I would not presume to tell an artist who and what to draw, paint or otherwise portray, as you would not presume to tell me how to lead a Weyr. We are different worlds and in our fields each of us is more qualified. I have no artistic mind, young Minji, and my creativity extends far more to word and rhyme than it does to portraitry. State what it is you would like and I will do it; this asking me every step of the way is not necessary." If there was ever doubt that she could be forward, Liyanna's words likely washed them away quite clearly. She was a bit tired of bartering. If Minji wanted to do the portrait, than by the Egg, pick how to do it.
The Weyrwoman's gaze turned back to Amir and a light nod was her response. White and cream did not stand out next to her pale gold queen, that much was true. She'd pick the dress once she was sure what it was the young artist wanted to do. She did not mean to sound scolding, though her words could no doubt be taken as such. Really, Liyanna just did not like feeling as though she was being backed into a corner to pick something she knew little about. Like asking someone who was blind which fish was better without letting them smell, taste or touch it - they were as likely to point out a poisonous one as a good one, since they couldn't see what they were dealing with.
"Which would you like, Minji? All three, merely one...? I will pick the gown based upon your decision." She nodded slowly, as if to emphasize her words. Perhaps that would take the sting out of her half-scolding remark.
[ Ugh, terrible. I'm sorry D: I'm sick, it's my only excuse. I hate to keep you waiting. ]

It seemed to the blue not to give up hopse in something as Minji kept to her own premises. When the blue plopped himself reight beside her, Minji still didn't make a move for him, although she would give him a glance every now before finally keeping his attention upon the other two.
When Amir's suggestion on the dress color was determined, and the Weyrwoman responded to staying upon the sands rather than at the entrance, Minji nodded. Then it was back to the descussion of the dress. To which it made Minji wonder as to what kind of portrait she she do with Liyanna and Ariannalyth.
The suddenness of the words coming from Liyanna confirmed that she would do all three. Minji loved to draw, so three would be much better than one. Before too long, Minji was verbally thinking of her confirmation of how many were to be done. "Weyrwoman Liyanna, I would be more than glad to do three for you. So, I shall do one of each and then a double." She, too had nodded her affirmation. "I shall do the singles first, and then later, after the hatching is over, do the double."
Minji knew that doing the double would be of some time, so doing the single ones would be a breeze and nothing to anticipate for. Even so, while Minji would be doing the dragoness, she may include the whole of this clutch. That seemed to be very interesting to include the eggs.

"A white dress, then. When would you have me come, and where would you like the portrait done at?"
Liyanna cocked her head to the side, clearly thoughtful. In truth, she would have to deliberately clear time from her schedule. Without a Weyrleader, she was left straddled, tending to the Weyr completely on her own, though she didn't have any complaints. She almost dreaded her gold companion rising, as while clearing some time off for herself would be easier, she did not trust anyone at the Weyr to be competent enough to match her. None of them were worthy for permanent mates; there was a reason her queen was never caught by the same bronze twice in a row despite having flown before several times. Maybe it was conceited, but wasn't she just a touch entitled? She certainly thought so.
"Unless you'd like to do the portrait here. I am sure Amir would not mind," she added smoothly, her gaze turning to the other girl. Actually, she got the impression Amir would enjoy watching if only out of primal curiosity, but that was just her. She didn't know Amir well and she didn't pretend to. Judgmental as she was, she was sure if she spent much time around the other female, she wouldn't like her. Liyanna, simply put, did not like very many people. She was unfriendly, she was cold, and she was calculating. It took a lot to earn the Weyrwoman's friendship. Tolerance was one thing, but beyond that, few enjoyed her confidence. She could think of only a very small amount. Some candidate, no doubt like the rest of the Weyr's girls, eager to Impress a queen that might be on the Sands at that very moment, was not likely to earn her interest. She'd acknowledge her if she Impressed something. Until then, tolerance. Nothing personal.
Although, if they did the portrait there, she would not be dressed up for it. Liyanna did not intend to run off to her weyr for the purpose of donning that white gown, just to come back to the Weyrlake. She strongly suspected she would end up getting dirty on the way and look the part of a fool. That was the problem with white; it stained so very easily and was so hard to get marks out of. She rarely wore much of it, if she could help. Rich reds, burgundies and wine hues were her favourites; they brought out her fair skin and her dark hair. There was a reason the burgundy dress was also her favourite. "What would you prefer?" Her glance toward Amir was an inquiry in itself, saying without words, And do you oppose doing it here?

Minji thought for a couple of seconds as the Weyrwoman asked as to when she needed to be back for the portrait as well as to where. Before Minji replied to her as to what she would find suitable, Minji paused a few moments so that she could think it through for a liable answer.
"Well, for the time, would later in the afternoon work for you if you can sqeeze in time? The sun'll be just barely past it's highest point, so I'll have all the light needed as to whether the portrait should be done inside or out." Another pause as she took in another reasonable breath of air as she then continued on. "As for where to do the portrait. The hatching sands can wait til I do the portrait of your bondmate, gold Ariannalyth. The weyrlake can be a no go as, if you are wearing a white dress, it would only get dirtied and that would be kind of a pain to wash.. I would not recommed your weyr as that is personal privacy for you and I am not one to intrude upon another's space, but that may be a plausible place.." Minji rubbed her chin lightly as she thought of where to do the portrait.
Before anything could be brought up Minji remained awkwardly silent. Surely there was a good place to make do with a portrait. There were always places to do a sketch, but finding them is usually the difficulty of doing so.
"Is there a favorite place you like to be around? The scrolls room, or just a place to find solitude with lighting?" The artist seemed to be a heavy burden just getting things arranged, but this was all sudden to her as she didn't quite expect the Weyrwoman to just let her to a portraitfor her within the same moment of meeting her. Surely Minji could think of SOMETHING in which to have the portrait done at.

For the most part she had listened to the ongoing conversation, her eyes slowly shifting from Liyanna to Minji and back as each exchanged words. Still, while some might find this a boring task, Amir herself was rather enjoying getting to see just how, exactly, and artist planned and got ready to sketch a portrait. It was a rare treat, and she was enjoying very much. Chast had finally given up on pestering Minji for attention -- for a reason he did not understood she would not pet him. So, instead, the blue waddled over to the Weyrwoman, crooning lightly and inquisitively as he approached. Maybe she would be willing to scratch his hide a bit? Sure, Amir always did it the best way, but he couldn't stop himself from being a social creature. And being petted by strangers was always amusing -- not that he could truly consider Liyanna a stranger, though.
"Unless you'd like to do the portrait here. I am sure Amir would not mind." "Mm? Oh, I would very much enjoy watching Minji do her portrait, if she won't mind that is. But please, don't limit your options for me. Wherever you guys choose will be ok, and if I cannot attend for one reason or another it will be alright as well."
Though Amir would regret not being able to watch, neither did the red-head wished to be an obstacle in Minji's preparations, having already heard her discuss different places and options that rolled through the Sr. Apprentice Artist's mind. To be honest they all sounded lovely, but for some reason the scroll room was one that caught her interest. However, she was unsure if the Weyrwoman would comply. Ah well, asking never truly killed anyone.
"If I might be allowed to dare and suggest, perhaps the scroll room would be fitting? Surely not many people will be around, so it will be mostly quiet and calm for the duration of the portrait and -- with the sun high -- it is sure to have all the lighting Minji might need... I think."

"This afternoon?"
Liyanna clucked her tongue and looked up at the sky as if it held the answer to the question; perhaps she thought it did. She bit her lip and folded her arms over her lower stomach as she considered her tasks for the day. Would she be able to squeeze in time? Perhaps. She had a great deal of responsibilities, thanks to having no Junior Weyrwoman to share it with, though she strongly suspected that was going to change given the size of some of the eggs out on the Sands. Ariannalyth would be furious were that the case, though, seeing as she had never mothered a queen. Ah, but those were thoughts for another time. She supposed if she put that girl - the one from the Hold who was so efficient with responsibilities, the one who was the Headwoman's daughter - in charge of some things, she could free up time in the afternoon. She made a mental note to ask Nasrin about her jobs. Her name was one of the few that Liyanna regularly remembered.
As for the rest of Minji's questions, she shook her head. Indoors would negate the perfect light, wouldn't it? Morning light did not effect the inside very much to her knowledge, although the recommendation of the scroll room did earn a curt nod from the young woman. Indeed, that would be an excellent place for them to meet, and since Amir seemed as fond of it as Minji was, she would not disrespect the both of them by pointing out that they would be working in artificial light there. She would, for once, assume that they knew that already.
The firelizard kept her from responding immediately, though. Her gaze dropped to the little blue and she quirked an eyebrow before holding one hand out to him. She really was not overly fond of firelizards, but the creature was not being forceful and he hadn't actually landed on her. That was one of her biggest problems with firelizards -- the presumption that they could land on her. Ariannalyth found it insulting, as did Liyanna. She could just feel the gold's agitation at the firelizard's presence near her. Liyanna was not the only one who was not terribly fond of them. The queen did not allow the winged creatures near her Sands. Really, she had no reason for that, either, except that she thought they were noisy. She did not think they were unintelligent. Liyanna did, but she held her hand out anyway, as if to allow the blue to nudge her if he so wished. She would not actively touch him unless he gave the go-ahead. She'd seen what firelizards could do with their bites. It was nasty.
Her head bobbed her consent. "The records room this afternoon will suffice for me. I might point out though that should you both choose to be present when you do Ariannalyth's portrait, in advance you should know that she loathes firelizards and will not hesitate to demand this little fellow leave, should he dare fly onto her sands. That may be prudent advice come time for the Touchings and Hatching as well... she is very stubborn, my Aria. She will not budge on that front."

Once the blue fire lizard headed away from the young artist and toward the Weyrwoman, Minji felt somewhat relaxed. It wasn't that she felt unnerved with the creature wanting attention, but it was how long it kept at it until finally getting it through that he wasn't going to get any true attention from her.
With the suggestion taken up by Amir, Minji managed a faint appearance of a grin and eyed the two other people. It was quite the suggestion of the scrolls room, and she had no idea that Liyanna would be busy today to get the portrait in before the sun's morning rays turned to afternoon, and then to nothing if the choice was not made up soon, or if it would be carried on today. The clucking of Liyanna made Minji snap her attention toward the older woman as she remained quiet, waiting for her to make an announcement of what she felt of the idea of doing the portrait today. It weighed somewhat as Minji waited, seemingly to not let off once the Weyrwoman first shook her head at something she was possibly thinking, and then a curt nod.
The attention of the Weyrwoman soon turned over toward the fire lizard, and because of such, the gaze of Minji's went toward the blue as well. Such a determined creature to give up on the artist, candidate, and make way for the Weyrwoman. The action of it did cause Minji to let a soft giggle out as she watched the action of what the Weyrwoman would do, but then she stifled the rest to remain quiet in her mind.
Just as Minji remianed quiet for the few moments, Liyanna spoke of the records room being suffient for the portrait to be done at and Minji let her breath draw out long as if she had held it for some time. Though just as Minji drew in, Liyanna spoke of when the two candidates were to enter the Sands for the portrait of Liyanna's gold, Ariannalyth, fire lizards were to remain outside of the grounds during Touching and Hatching. Since Minji owned no fire lizards, she had nothing to worry about, though she still nodded of her understanding of the rules set down by the gold Ariannalyth and Liyanna.
"I will make do to remember that Weyrwoman Liyanna.." She bowed at those words before standing straight and peeked into one of the few bags clipped to her belt to make sure she at least had enough charcoal for the portrait that she would be doing. Sure enough, there was probably enough to do a third of the portrait. So, after this conversation was let for everyone to get ready, she would have to head on down to the lower caverns for, hopefully, more charcoal.

Finally! He was not being ignored! The Blue gave a rather excited chirp, scurrying closer to the outstretched hand of the Weyrwoman before crooning softly, butting his wedge shaped small head against her palm softly. The chubby creature certainly had a craving for attention, Faranth knew that was the only thing that ever fueled him in a flight. Another happy chirp came again, the Blue continuing to rub his head along the Weyrwoman's outstretched hand and index finger. Amir couldn't help but smile lightly, though the female managed to keep her small giggles in check and unaudible. She knew Liyanna was not the most fondest person when it came to firelizards, yet it seemed that she had no problem with being nice to a polite Blue. It was moments like these the girl was glad she'd taken time to train Chast not to be so... Pushy. If more people did took care into training their firelizard,s perhaps they would be seen less as pests and more as miniature [helpful] dragons to most. Then again, she had been with him for a long time... It would be a shame to her if he hadn't been well trained by now. Upon hearing the Weyrwoman's voice Amir raised her eyes to gaze back at her, nodding to her softly before replying once the other was done speaking.
"It's alright. You may assure Ariannalyth I will make sure Chast stays at the Candidate Barracks in those times, as well as that he will not set a claw into the Sands in any moment.'
As if to promptly add affirmative to her words, the Blue chirped happily, though otherwise he continued to seek attention from Liyanna. Minji had not petted him, but maybe she wouldn't be so reluctant to do so/ The poor darling, he didn't knew Minji had simply been trying to be polite. As Minji nodded to Liyanna as well, Amir silently waited to see what would be done. Still, her stomach was beginning to nudge her in hunger [she could tell half of the feeling came from her ravenous and food-loving Blue], so she would probably head to the kitchens for a small meal and perhaps another chore -- if there was enough time in between now and the time of the portrait. In which case, she would be wise to ask.
"One small question, Liyanna. Any specific hour we should meet up in the Scrolls Room then, for Minji to make her portrait of you?'
She really did not wish to miss this valuable chance, or chances. Seeing a young artist work on a portrait, and watch the Weyrwoman in a gown. The last one being such a rarity.

Gingerly, Liyanna ran her fingers over the blue firelizard. Her touch was gentle, firm enough to be felt but very far from rough; she treated him with the care one might a small child, although not with the amount of attention a human babe would receive. She did not so much as look at the little creature any longer (her attention had gone back to the two humanoid companions she seemed to have acquired), as he was not worth more than the attention she provided him. The thought was likely condescending and more than a little mean - no one had ever claimed Liyanna to be a nice individual - but at least she hadn't ignored him completely. She was getting better about dealing with firelizards but in truth they often irritated her. At least that one was quiet, she wasn't sure how she would have reacted to something screeching loudly at her. Probably would have walked off, really. Patience was not one of her strong points and loud critters irritated her incessantly.
To Minji she turned, her head tilting to the side just slightly. She did not, however, respond to her words as Amir was speaking and her statements distracted the goldrider most efficiently. She turned to meet the other girl's eyes and gave her a curt nod. As long as her firelizard did not go near Ariannalyth, it was likely the gold would not mind him too much. Aria was very good at ignoring things that did not present themselves to her face-to-face. It was a gift Liya wished she possessed.
"I think the decision on the hour should be Minji's, but I am most often free just after lunch. During the early morning I am typically busy with my responsibilities, and the evenings is when I spend time with Aria." Telling two candidates when the queen was not on the Sands may not have been the best move but she suspected they both would realize that if they dared to step onto the Sands without permission, their chances at candidacy were through... and she couldn't say what Aria's reaction would be, though it would doubtlessly be unpleasant for them. Liya herself would make sure they never stood for another clutch if they took advantage of the trust she gave them. But neither girl seemed stupid and she didn't think it would come up. "To my knowledge your candidate lessons are often in the morning as well. I am willing to clear an evening if that is preferred, but the afternoons are to my taste. What think you, Minji?"

{ I honestly forgot all about this >.< }
"I, myself, am rarely a morning person and evenings are sometimes when I spend time outdoors, out in the valley a good deal.." She paused, she had no idea that the dragoness, Ariannalyth could leave the sands while there were eggs, but that was the beauty of living within a Weyr. One learned these kind of things in time. "Since just after lunch is free for you, and that's usually when I'm thinking of how to set up the rest of my day, it will suffice for me. The sun's usually high and bright, so, just before lunch is possibly the best set time." Minji seemed confident in her words and passed a sideways glance toward Amir and then straight forwardly to Liyanna.
Very rarely did Minji feel secure in herself, but if nothing else, she felt that this conversation was dragging out to be a long one. Not that she would just blurt it out, but she did want to get in a few sketches of the scenery before too long. To which, it would probably be best to do the portrait some other time, such as tomorrow if it was possible.
When a brief silence remained, Minji cleared her throat and passed a glance toward the lake water. "If it may be alright, since I'm betting you would like to spend some time with your dragoness, Ariannalyth, I would be glad to postpone the portrait of you til tomorrow, or even after the Hatching so I can get all three done at the same time.. Though all depending on how long the Hatching draws out." In all truth, the young artist did not know how long a Hatching could be.. All she heard from by her fellow artists was that they were sometimes the longest things ever to witness, but always interesting. One of them even said that, while he went to examine a hatching, that it took nearly a whole day and a half. But that was something Minji disbelieved.
